I think its odd too...but ive had odder things happen. Ive had a female sent to me gravid and was never told, and ive had a gecko sent to me by mistake that was a hold back...by 2 very well know breeders...So mistakes are possible...I dunno how one could make a mistake. After a longgg day of working im sure even experinced breeders just say the first thing that comes to mind when answering emails.

My last 8 geckos were bought from steve and i have to say he knows his stuff. It just doesn't sound like something he would say maybe some things he said were misunderstood, maybe he was having a bad day and just said what he said without thinking. He is a very reputable breeder with fantastic leos.I hope this is all a big misunderstanding

As do I. Dunno...hopefully the OP will be around to clarify everything. Again never purchased from him(always sold the ones i wanted before i could get them:p) but ive heard good things about him...Im voting he had a bad day and was in a hurry to answer questions...A quick sale doesnt sound like something he would do...

Well... people often hear what they want to hear, and read into a statement what they want to see. If sufficient research had been done prior to purchasing the animal, a whole lot more would have been understood. Furthermore, it is against the terms of agreement on this website to discredit any named breeder. This thread is turning into a bunch of useless gossip.

I'm willing to bet that there was a disconnect between information explained and information understood.

SidAndCira, did you buy the geckos with the intent of breeding them one day but just not right now? If you do get eggs just stick them in the freezer and then throw them away. Just because a female lays eggs does not mean you have to incubate them.

I would encourage everyone to read the TOS before posting any negative/speculative/slanderous remarks about any breeder or quoting emails since that type of posting would result in infractions.

My appologies. the TOS slipped my mind. I didnt mean to slander anyone. Like i said it seemed odd someone so well known would tell them such(i was first to notice they were uptop).

"Well... people often hear what they want to hear, and read into a statement what they want to see." I'm not lying, I told you what he said. I wouldn't try to slander someone like Steve, he was kind and informative. I wanted to double-check what he said since other herps said he was "inaccurate" about what he had said so I asked here. I didn't leave details out, I didn't add in my own little tid-bits. Thanks. >:|

He said, "if you keep the tank temperatures high she will not ovulate." I asked him, "Really? I did not know this, what temps are they?" And he said, "the hot side 90 and the cool side 82," it was in the morning so I doubt it was a "long day," maybe it's true information that none of you know of? I have no idea. I'm so confused!

@Mel&Keith, no, I did not want them to breed. I've had Sid, a male, for a long time and wanted him to have a companion. Another male would result in a fight, so I figured maybe a female? I asked Steve if he had an older female that can't ovulate and he said, "Why do you want one that can't ovulate?" I told him I didn't want them to breed, and he said, "It would be better to get a young adult, if you keep the temperatures high enough she will not ovulate."

I'm not trying to "gossip" about anyone, I wanted to know the truth and get everyone's opinions on whether or not it was true, I was just a little annoyed when everyone said he was an ass for lying and trying to make a quick-sale. I agree he is a great breeder, the gecko I bought came fat and healthy, shes so adorable! If he is a part of the forum could someone direct him to this thread? I bugged him a lot via email (out of excitement) the few days before Cira arrived, so I am tentative about bugging him again. But perhaps it would be good to email him again questioning the temperature/ovulation deal.

I'm starting to think that he might not have worded what he meant correctly or maybe he left some details out and I misunderstood?

I am almost positive that you worded some of his responses incorrectly or misunderstood what he was trying to explain. Steve has been a member of the reptile community for a very long time and knows his stuff. He does know about this thread and would prefer to correspond with you directly which is probably what should have happened in the first place.

Please understand that many breeders have worked very hard to build great reputations over a number or years and it it incredibly frustrating when someone throws your name into a public thread and others start trashing it because of a miscommunication/misunderstanding. In the future, it might be better to double check info without getting names involved. Most of the time it is just misunderstood communications.

And as it's been mentioned previously, doing your research before you buy is the best policy. There is NO way to have permanent male and female cohabitants without any possibility of breeding and eggs. But there's nothing wrong with tossing the eggs so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Uhm... for one, I copy and pasted what he said, nothing was worded incorrectly. It was all just a big misunderstanding, he didn't quite break it down for me but I suppose that's my bad for not asking more? "Please understand that many breeders have worked very hard to build great reputations over a number or years and it it incredibly frustrating when someone throws your name into a public thread and others start trashing it because of a miscommunication/misunderstanding." I wasn't the one thrashing him, I was just asking if what he was saying was correct, everyone else were the ones saying, "No, he's wrong," and, "He's an ass." And I did do my research, I read his care sheet and asked him questions, and did exactly as he said. Thanks though, I guess. Is there a way to delete this thread?
