Hovabator

I looked for this and didn't have much luck but how good is the hatch rate using the hovabator without a thermastat and just using a thermometer with a probe and the adjustment that comes with it. Mine is staying relativaly at the same temperature only varrying a couple of degrees.

you can put a large ziplock bag with water in it at the bottom and it will help steady your temps.

Oh I didn't mention that I already have the bag of water in there I was just wondering if the success rate was still decent with the hovabator and no thermostat

You will get eggs to hatch for sure... However, your hatch rate will certainly improve if you spend a little money and get a proper thermostat...

They waffer "thermostat" that comes with the hova is very unreliable...

All of my fertilized eggs hatched and i use a hovabator with just the waffer thermostat and hatchrite! I had some infertile ones that went bad with-in the first week or two but none after that. I had 34 eggs layed from 3 1st year breeders, 5 eggs were infertile when layed and another 4 molded in the first week which says they were more then likely infertile too. All of the others have hatched, 25 so far with 1 more to go. Of course my house temps don't vary too much at all so that helps me out. To me a rheostat or cheap thermostat isn't worth using on a incubator. I think they arn't as sensative as they need to be but they are fine on tank heaters that don't need to be a consistant temperature. My waffer thermostat worked better then a external one that i tried. My waffer keeps the temps in my hovabator within about 1 1/2+- degrees of what i want and thats total differance. It ranges typically from 85 to 86.7. If your going to buy a thermostat for a incubator just go all out and buy the nice ones but if your waffer keeps the temps consistant then it will be fine. If you during a low scale project then keep the cost down but if you are starting some real investments then go out and buy the good stuff!

When you're running one 24/7 without stop more than one year they tend to go. I had one go bad right in the middle of my second year and killed every one of the eggs I had!! :main_thumbsdown: There's no warning when it happens. IMO it's best to have something that's going to last! :main_thumbsup:

A little pricey but would go with a proportional stat like a Helix or a Herpstat, it's what I use with my NS and on all our racks. :main_thumbsup: Herpstat Pro has four outlets with controls for each so you can run four racks or four incubators or any combo.

I didn't know that they where that bad at going out! I know that I will be getting a proportional stat sometime before next season. I already had my mind made up on that just because of the prop. stats. being alot more accurate and less chance of things going wrong. Hearing about your problem makes me really want one now. I just now for right now that my hova is working and doing a good job with the waffer for now but that could change. Its good to hear of problems that everyone has had so you can try to keep them down for you.
