So, I was just wondering, when you have multiple girls for 1 male...do you put them in individually? Or just throw that boy into the group of girls and let him do what he does best at his own leisure?

Since I am new at this I put the male in with one female so I can keep track of the breeding and understand what the eggs might hatch to be.

I put the male with a single female when I know she is ovulating, that way I can watch the action LOL!

One at a time. Females seem to get cranky when they don't have the male's undivided attention.

Oh wait, are we talking about geckos? lol

LOL Paul. All of my geckos have thier own home (except for 3 non-breeding females). I just put in the male with whatever female is ovulating and let them do their thing.

I put the male in with a single female. I think it's best for record keeping and I house mine seperately anyways...

I house all my geckos in 20 gallon long tanks, usually 1-2 to a tank, but in the tank with 3 geckos there's a heated upper level. My males and females are put together between about January and October. There's a lot of room for them to get away from each other if necessary. So far this has worked for all my combinations. I have enough extra tanks so if someone needs a break they can be separated. Occasionally I have a younger female that I decide to breed later in the season and frequently put the male in with her for just long enough for him to do the deed and then return him to his other females. Most of my males lose interest in the females by about July but they stay together till October because my extra tanks are generally full of babies.

Is there any reason not to put the female in the male's cage for a conjugal visit? What if two different female morphs are being housed together and each need to be bred to a different male - is that an okay procedure? (Not trying to thread hijack...)

I have some of my girls in there own cages, and then I have some that are in groups.
The ones that are in groups are either sisters or the same genetically.
The ones that are separated to one in a cage are my special projects.
The male is always the one that gets moved around. Depending on the male, what his work load is (one has the job of 25 females) :) , and who is ovulating at the time.

I have 14 males that are going to be doing the job this year. They range from a male only breeding 1 female to like I said a male that has 25 females (he has a lot of work to do :D ). The average work that a male has is probably 6-8 females. Here is a picture of my racks

As you can see on each bin there is a lot of info
1. The top left of the bin is the male written in his designated color (each male is assigned a color)
2. in the top right is the number of the bin (in black) and on both sides of the number is the color of the male that will be with them. To the left of the number is a white dot (on some) that tells me that I have put the male in with the females before (so I can check for eggs or ovulation)
3. The white tags on the bins are for each female in the bin with there birth date, there genetic make up, weights, and if the laid eggs and when.
4. Also under the number in each bin is a typed copy of the females in the bin with there genetic makeup, and birth date.
5. Lastly when eggs are collected for the incubator and put in the deli cups. Above the egg it is marked with the number of the bin in the color of the male.

Hope that all kind of made sense

I put my females in with my male, it seems to work better to me because the male is in his area and not a new one, if i put him in the females cage it seem that he wonders around first to check out the new area and then tries to breed!

The only thing I see wrong with this is that, depending on the morphs, you really need to be diligent in tracking who laid what eggs. If you're expecting any hets or morphs you can't see at birth, you stand the chance of having a clutch and then hatchlings of uncertain heritage and genetics. If the females are not in sync, you can probably manage if you check on them every day or multiple times in a day to see who is close to laying and then get their eggs out right away and label them.

The easier method is to just house the two separately.

Female in male's cage. That way hes like "Oh, whats this?" something new is in my enclosure! And that way, the female is too busy looking around to pay attention to his "sneak attack" or "backrub" or whatever you want to call it ;)

Altho I have put males in females enclosures and got the same results, maybe i'm insane? :)

for this year I have groups.

1.3 2 good eggs and 6 infertile ( 3 year old male and 1st year females)

1.5 12 good eggs none bad (all first year leps)

1.1 No ovulation

I will also "try" some single pairing next year.

Also, in groups (unless two females lay the same day) you can tell who laid what so you can track it that way...
