Okay now this is kind of a novice question I know. But how many eggs does a leo lay in a season being introduced to a male only once? I would think 2? But I was also wondering if the female would be able to become pregnant just off of remnants latter on.

Last year I introduced my males and females and seperated them once they started producing eggs. They were never introduced back together after that. All 3 of my females were 1st time breeders.

Out of 3 females, they each layed 6 clutches with only one of them containing 1 egg. I had 35 eggs layed total with 9 being infertile right out of the gates so 26 fertile eggs. All of my eggs hatched and I only had one deformity out of 26 hatchlings, a eye deformity. All of my infertile eggs were layed during the last couple of clutches.

I didn't want to reintroduce my pairings to try to keep the number of eggs limited on my 1st year breeders. I thought they would of only produce a small amount of clutched because of being first year breeders but that didn't happen.

So to all first year breeders out there, just because the information say that first year female breeders will only produce a couple clutches doesn't mean its gonna happen that way. The only thing I had a problem with last year was producing more hatchlings then the "numbers" said they would. Thats not really a bad problem. I was just limited on the space I had provided and luckily had barely enough room in my rack and incubator.

Females lay up to 8 clutches of eggs every 3 weeks.... = 16 eggs

(A clutch is 2 eggs)

However, this is different from leo to leo. Most of the time, females lay less eggs their 1st year, but i have had females lay up to 14 eggs their 1st year before. And some females will only lay 1 egg a clutch in their 1st year.

But to answer your question, it is possible to lay up to 16 eggs the 1st year. They only have to mate once, as the females stores the male's sperm inside of her for each clutch.

I have had anywhere from 0-22 eggs from a first season breeder. It varies from gecko to gecko. But size and age play some what of a factor in it as well.
