That's the beauty of breeding living things where individual variation comes into play. Naturally if a hundred offspring are produced and selected for color, the nicest one will command a much higher price than the lesser colored ones. We can all be happy at any level in which we choose to participate - it just depends upon how you rationalize it in your own mind, there is no "I'm right and you're wrong". People pay thousands of dollars for a twenty dollar football with some autographs on it but if that makes them happy then who cares?

I have no problem spending over $250 to get a beautiful gecko. I may not be able to afford the best, but I definitely want as close to that as possible.:)

The way we see it is this: They are like art...we will pay just about anything for a gecko that is amazing looking and one we want to add to our collection. Also, we feel you get what you pay for. Awesome animals+awesome animals usually= really awesome animals. That's how we buy our breeders. We want to have the best so we can produce the best.

I'm flat broke at the moment but I'd be willing to go up to $150 for a popular morph. Though I think my two are nice geckos and I only paid $45 and $25, respectively, for them. :)

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the forum last week and this is my first time participating in a thread. I decided to finally respond to a thread because I'm in the buying process and I was just asking myself the same question. I would pay more than $250 for a high end morph because, if I like an animal I'll buy it. I paid $1000 each for both of my hairless cats plus $250 for shipping on my male and I took a plane to pick up my little girl, the flight was about $330.(No I don't breed them) Although, if I paid that much for a female leo I definitely wouldn't breed her.

Now, I have to jump over to the introduce yourself thread!

I'm one to talk I paid about $80 for Faffy. (Which many would say is expensive but leos aren't a common pet this far north and as far as I know my store is the only one that carries them.) But I hope to one day get a Tremper giant. One of the orange ones. I'd expect to pay quite a bit more for a nice one. Most websites I've looked at have had them at $300-$400. Which seems fair to me.

well well well....how serious are you? you start with high yellows that all you will get.....you want good genetics? you will pay 100-a few thousand....most people on here are breeders.....we usually pay a few hundred for a raptor and 400-600 for a good enigma :p

people trade for breeder animals whenever possible in today's economy, though CASH IS KING IN MY HOUSE.

The bottom line is...

Pets don't need to be high quality animals, only healthy happy animals. Breeder animals should be of the best quality you can aquire and sometimes that isn't cheap.
