With the way the economy has been, I have been noticing a definite lack in buyers for mid to high end morphs. At the last show I attended, most people weren't buying any leos that were more than $30. I wanted to see where people's buying range is at the current moment.

I'm not buying any time soon, but if I were I'd go for the $50-100 range, obviously not expecting something real high end for that price. I price my own geckos at $25-45 ($25 for a high yellow or tang, $45 for a nice super snow). I deliberately avoid breeding anything too high end so I can continue to charge low prices.

at the narbc show i went to a week or two ago, i really wasnt seeing any leopard geckos that were priced for more than maybe 175-200 bucks. it doesnt matter to me what the price is, as long as i am happy with the gecko and actually have the money for it, it doesnt matter to me.

It all depends on the gecko. We aren't buying anymore right now either, but I would pay $150-200 for a nice RAPTOR, although cheaper prices are always worth-while :)

I picked less then $50 because I'm just looking for a fun loving pet.. or one thats in need of home.. You don't need anything fancy for that

I don't necessarily buy higher priced geckos because I want something fancy, I just like specific morphs more than others and are willing to pay the price. At any rate, I find any type of gecko to be beautiful, I think some normals are prettier than other higher end morphs. Personally, I am not really into the Enigmas all that much.

With every single gecko we've ever bought, we've searched through at least hundreds before picking out the one we chose. We also had a very special "feeling" about each and every one before we bought them. We pretty much go by our instincts when it comes to getting any sort of animal. Sometimes we are looking for something in particular, and sometimes we aren't; but it's the feeling that we get when we first see it that sways our decision-making above all else.

If there was something out there I wanted and had the money I'd pay well over $250... A lot of stuff really catches my eye and I feel I must have it at first, but after mulling it over I a bit I always lose interest... When Radars come out along with BBB Enigmas (won't be hatching my own now :cry2:) I won't be able to hold back and will likely end up ''pawning'' some priceless material goods of mine... :main_yes:

Well since I dont have a money tree growing on my front lawn I buy what I can, but still have some left to spare if something were to pop up. If I saw something I really liked I would pay $250 or more, but the chances of that happening are really slim. I don't see much on the market that draws my eye. I would expect to spend anywhere from $55-$170 on a gecko, but only if it was special. I pretty much look over the geckos a gazillion times before I buy them! Go ask the people I bought geckos from this past year :p Every gecko I bought at the shows was prepaid and ready to be picked up and No extra geckos were picked up:)
I guess I wont be buying anymore geckos until next years show season LOL

Has anyone thought about leopard gecko theft as a business? I imagine business would be good.

Actually business would be terrible. You would have to wholesale them to petstores for next to nothing. And since most breeders have pictures of the nicer stuff, you would get caught really fast. Another problem for a criminal is that this is a highly subjective pricing structure, so you would be looking at grand theft on mulitple counts if you stole from me. I would also push for concurrent sentencing so you never saw the light of day again. If you stole in a state that has laws, you would also be brought up on illegal sales charges, which is big trouble in many states. And for all this trouble you would stand to make less than a $100.

I would and have paid more then $250 many times BUT they key is I have to feel it's worth it. Basically it has to be something I can't live without or a piece to a project I'm working on or such a fine representation of a particular morph that I just couldn't pass it up. Unfortunately right now there just isn't much out there that falls into that category for me so this year I've only done it once. If it's worth it someone will buy it eventually. I've held on to some leos because I refused to drop my price below what I felt it was worth and eventually it sold for the price I wanted. The way I look at it is if one gecko ate 500 mealworms a month (they don't) I would only be spending $21.60 to hold on to it for a year (and I never do).

sorry if this is a bad question but why would you want to steal a gecko let alone anything else. People work hard for the things they have and for someone to even joke about it is just not funny. Plus people love there animals and even if you did'nt get caught you still pay the price with karma let alone the one who matters most and I would'nt want to explain that one. Just get a normal job like everyone else especially the people who worked so hard to buy the gecko that would be stolen it would be safer and much more respectable.

You get what you pay for.... want a pet, buy a pet and if you want a breeder, buy the best you can find and AFFORD and make some great ones.

I would spend well over $250 on an animal if I wanted it and not bat an eye.

I plan on getting a albino super snow, some line snows, and phantoms.
All are about 200 each then you add shipping.

I don't care as long as I get the morph I want, but what I am spending now is kinda my limit.
