I was reading a threat that said some people have more than 200+ geckos!

How often do you guys manage to change your water?

I've read before that your supposed to change it every day

I use gallon jugs of water and an orange bucket from home depot and just go cage to cage, all the old water gets dumped into the bucket, refill from the jugs, and on to the next. Once they're all done I dump a little bleach in the bucket then flush it all.

I use dishes that are large enough to hold water for up to a week. Unless some stupid cricket takes a dive in and drowns then I'm right on it. I then pull ALL of the dishes and soak them in bleach water once a week to sterilize. I don't have a life so its no problem for me!

Dump and change everynight. I have extra dishes for everyone so once a week I pull the old ones, soak and store for the following week.

I prefer to use bottled spring water as well. My company has done testing on tap water and believe me, you don't want to know what is in it! Yikes!

I feel it is prudent for us, and our leos to drink good quality bottled water. It's cheap and easy enough.

The downside is, there is of course no residual chlorine, so bacteria flourish in the water dish with spring water. I would not go more than two days to swap out or sanitize the dish and replace the water...every day is preferable.

Using diluted bleach to sanitize dishes is fine, but you have to be careful because the bleach can stick to the dish and raise chlorine levels through the roof....be sure you rinse thoroughly. I prefer to use a quaternary ammonium germicidal to clean water dishes, enclosures, etc. You can buy a gallon jug cheap and diluted down a jug lasts a very long time. A good quat kills all bacteria and viruses. (We use Quatricide.)

We use pyrex petri dishes for all our water, feeder, and vit/mineral dishes, so they can be sanitized in the dishwasher at high temp as well.

i clean bowls every day to every other day. sterilize with diluted alcohol. i only have 5 geckos so its an easy job :). I was thinking of getting the automatic water dispenser though, it looks like a small version of a water bubbler you'd get for your cat or dog.

I change water everyday. I don't do any soaking with bleach. I don't simply refill the water bowls either, I just flush it out with clean water and that's it.

I make sure to wash and dry at least every other day. Spring water over here too.

My w/c snake i'm pretty bad about. He's likes to bite. Long story behind him. I don't particularly like him these days.

It's a good idea to have spare bowls. People that put off doing the dishes really appreciate it! :)

I change mine maybe every 3-4 days. I use a little porcelain saucer-like thing. I use tap water but add Reptisafe water conditioner. When I change I just simply use antibacterial dish soap to clean, and rinse thoroughly.

He's a rescue- ball python obtained by previous owners for sole purpose of watching it eat live prey...after a little digging about where the snake was bred, it was confirmed the snake was imported directly from Africa. :main_no: And we STILL have to do dewormings every 6 months. But I successfully switched him from live to frozen thawed all by myself!

Sorry, back to the water topic...

I do every other day when i feed and clean unless a stray worm has drowned itself in it. I make sure i clean the dishes too and not just refil them, they seem to get a slightly slimey residue in them so i get it all out.

I use regular tap water for them as its fine for me so its fine for them :) Im sure in the wild they wouldnt find a puddle and stop and say "what?! rain water?! i think not! where is my avian?!!!" :p

Greedo has a bowl I change it every day I dont think she uses it very often, but ts there if she wants. Sometimes she will dip her feet in when shedding. I spray a mist of water on the warm side of her tank and she licks it off, this is probably more natural, or is it a bad idea? The tank is not damp.

I use disposable plastic portion cups. About 1/2 oz. I bought some PVC pipe and cut it with the table saw the height of the cup. Watering is sooooo easy now! The plastic cup sits in the PVC holder which keeps the cup from tipping. Every 2 or 3 days I just toss the cup out and put a fresh one in. No work. No washing. No sanitizing. And if you buy them in large quantities, it's only pennies per container. I used to use plastic lids and had to scrub them, then I baked them in the oven at 250° to kill any nasties left on after the scrubbing. Very time consuming and sooooo boring to wash all the lids.
