How often to put them together?

I'm new to the breeding thing, but thought I'd try our luck. Way back in June or July, I put the male in with the female (and a couple times he snuck over the partition! lol) I never saw any sign of an egg. She is healthy and fat. Should there have been a fertile egg (I assumed there would be and purchased an incubator)? Or does it take several tries? How often should I put them together?
Also, are there certain times of the year that may be more successful?
Thanks!

Well here is how you can make a female ovulate it is called the "paper trick"

From what I believe you can breed them all year around but many do not recommend it and offer a period so they can relax and get some more weight.
Make sure you have a nice lay box with 2-3 inches of substrate in their so she can dig the eggs. When you see she is gravid take out the male.

I put the female in with the male and observe them. If she doesn't spazz out on him, and is therefore receptive I leave her with him for 36 hours then remove her. This almost always results in fertile eggs. I introduce them again at 3 week intervals for the entire season.

I'll try the paper trick... thanks!
I worry about leaving the male in there for too long because last spring he chomped on her a few times. Not too bad but enough to draw blood. I'll try the 3 week intervals and see how she accepts him.

Got Spots, the male will bite the female to fertilize the eggs. So if it does draw blood you should separate them for a week and then introduce them back together.

the males doesn't bite to fertilize the eggs, rather its part of mating behavior. call them love bites but it has nothing to do with fertilizing the eggs. it has to do with "romancing" or preparing the female for her to accept the male.
