So how often should I dust my gecko's crickets with calcium? Oh, and how often should I treat them to waxworms? Just wondering. :main_robin:

Ah. Okay. I've been dusting almost all of the crickets I give my gecko who eats about three small crickets a day. Two if I give him a waxworm - which has been every day since I'm trying to fatten him up a bit.

Dusting

How often depends?

How old is the Gecko?

And what to dust with is also a question.

Calcium should be left out in a bowl or a container lid.

Assuming that you have an adult then, I have heard that you should dust with Calcium every feeding which is about every other day.

Then, I have heard that you should use Calcium plus D once a week.

Then, I have heard that you should use Multivitamins once (I think) a week.

I have a juvi. And for the moment, he really dislikes me. (Won't even come out of his hides at night now!)

I've been dusting crickets at every feeding with calcium and I'm looking into getting some vitamin dust as well. I'm also thinking of getting a cricket feeder as it seems much easier than me trying to pick them out of a little tub. I'll start putting in a constant supply of calcium for him then, but I doubt if he'll partake of it. Because of my ignorance, I hardly ever see him venture out into the open now. :\ I worry he's not getting enough water, but he's eating okay. (LOVES his waxies.)

I hope that over time I can earn back his trust. :\

Calcium

There is actually a all in one calcium/gutload dust that was created by Repashy Super Foods which is also sold by T-Rex in there Sandfire Super Food line. This formula is said to create the perfect calcium/phosphate ratio for leopard geckos or other reptiles but each is sold for that specific reptile. It is manufacture out of "human grade ingrediants" which means that it is made from the stuff we eat. You just dust and gut load your feeders with this and thats it. No messy calcium bowl in the terrarium being tracked all over the place. I have been using this formula for my geckos for a while now and they seem to enjoy it. I have noticed that they have become more active and healthy looking. They have always been healthy but just seem more happy anyways. I recommend this stuff. You can either get it from a local pet shop or from superfoods.repashy.com. Try it and let me kow what you think.

I'll definately give it a try. It would save me a lot of trouble. I'm not sure if they have that brand up here, but I'll look around and see about buying it online if I can't find it. Thanks!

I've been dusting all of mine. I hope that's okay.

Herman knows it's dinner time when I shake the baggie after I throw the crickets in with the powder.

I've been giving Fafnir mealworms lately and I just toss them with a bit of calcium and vitamin powder in the bowl. :) I'll start him back on crickets once he's more at ease with his surroundings.

Herman won't eat mealworms for me. He did when I first got him, but not anymore. He just finished eight small crickets. I can see his neck and tail are looking thicker.

I have only fed Puzzle once, but he ate dusted crickets. I tried the cricket feeder, but it's pretty much useless, so I'm returning it today. Should I be leaving out a tray of the RepCal, or does he get enough from the dusting of the crickets?

Calcium is also suppose to be left in a small dish.
