So is anyone on here going to have to go through this storm? It's now a category 5 and I'm starting to freak out and it's not even in the Gulf just yet! I'm in one of the worst places to be other than New Orleans and everywhere else on the Southshore (which they are all required to evacuate).

We don't know what to do...at the moment me and my fiancee are thinking about leaving and going to his grandparents which is only about 30 minutes from here (not a much better place to be) so that we can keep away from possible flooding. We flooded a few months ago within an hour of heavy rain, and now this storm is going to come and possibly stall right over us!

I'm worried about my geckos, but have a way to transport them if need be. I think I just don't want to leave because I want to be here to fix anything that happens...

...I just don't want another Katrina...

(Sorry, I think this is more of a vent of my stress )

Its completely understandable to be stressed out right now. Thats one helluva storm heading your way.
Is there anywhere north, or even east you and your animals can go to?

Kristin... I've been thinking about you the last couple of days. I'm so sorry that you are possibly in the path of this storm. The stress of something like that, wow, I couldn't even imagine!

You will be in my thoughts and prayers... please, keep us updated on how you are.

If you can get to somewhere that's safe from flooding it might be a good idea. The way the model looks right now this thing might stall out right over us. We're 30 miles inland so we're not too worried. We'll definitely be flooded into out neighborhood but our house is on blocks and has never flooded. Hopefully it slows down and dissipates quickly. We have our generator ready just in case. Good luck to all the rest of our Gulf Coast friends!

Well the only bit of my family that lives in Southern LA are leaving...and they are trying to convince me to leave (mainly my Dad), and I don't blame them, but unless we leave tonight we won't be able to get too far. Contraflow starts tomorrow at 4 AM...at this very moment me and my fiancee are discussing leaving to his grandparents so that we can stay away from possible flooding.

Thank you Brittany...I really appreciate it. There is still a small chance that this storm will move more East and give us the good side of it, but that's so small that I'm not expecting it. I've been having trouble sleeping and either eating like crazy or not eating at all...honestly never been this stressed, it's kind of weird. But thank you VERY MUCH for your thoughts and prayers...they are needed right now for everyone!

Yeah, this thing is supposedly going to stall, and that really worries me. I think it was showing that between Tuesday and Wednesday it's not going to go very far at all...so that of course means lots of rain. We are quite far inland. If anyone is interested we are in Tangipahoa parish...the Southern area of the parish, in Hammond.

Anyway...stress is a big thing right now, but I'm trying to stay busy to keep my mind off things.

Good luck to you Mel and Keith...hope that you don't get too much from it, good thing you guys are on the West side of it...lucky ;)!

And thanks everyone else for the replies and comments.

Looking at this I think I'd rather another Katrina...I didn't realize that when I went through Katrina I was actually on the east side which is the good side.

I hope things will be ok. Stay safe.

Thank you Kristi. We are more than likely evacuating to his grandparents or parents, both of which are a half hour from where we are, but more East, which is what we want. There is still a chance that the storm surge could get so bad that it floods even those areas because actually, while his grandparents and parents are more East they are still just as high North as where we are currently staying, so flooding can happen anywhere at this point.

Thanks again for your concern...I hope all will keep us updated on what's going on, and any chance I have to use the internet (which will be little if any once power and cable goes out) I will keep you guys updated.

My best to you guys! I contacted my customer who works at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans and he is part of a crew that stays at the zoo. He says they stay in the Reptile house which is like a fortress, did not get bothered by Katrina. I am hoping and praying you guys all come through fine.

Well it's finally over...in a way. We made it out ok where we are, and we are pretty close to N.O. And actually Baton Rouge got hit the worst from what I have heard, in comparison with the more southern areas.

We ended up leaving to go to my fiancee's grandparents house and just rode it out there, only because of our concern for flooding at our house (and by the way it didn't flood!). This storm was nothing compared to Katrina, and I'm so thankful for that. The only thing I worry about are those that had tornadoes. The storm hit Monday and we lost power then, then where I'm at we just got it back on Wednesday, but there are still a lot of areas it seems that are out of power. I think my fiancee's grandparents may still be without power.

The geckos faired well too...I took them with me and luckily they all fit into one rack! They were without heat for those couple days, and I don't think they were happy about it, but now they have it and are acting like their old normal selves :). I also have two cats that I had to evacuate, but they stayed at my fiancee's parents house, since I wanted them confined to one room and not a big open space like they would have gotten at his grandparents. I think they hate me forever for forcing them into pet carriers :main_rolleyes: ...if only they knew I was trying to help them! Lol...no but really, they are fine and don't hate me now!

I hope everyone else did ok in the storm....update us when you can!I know we don't have internet back at our house, but we do at work and while I'm here I'm going to use it up!

Wow...looks pretty bad where you are at, Christine. There were hardly any trees down in most of my area. Glad to hear you finally got power back...several people around here that I know didn't get it back until this weekend, so it was a long week for a lot of people. Still a long time to go before a bunch of others get power though.

I heard Baton Rouge got hit the worst (I live about 45 minutes from there), but I guess only some areas did more than others, but I know they got hit worse than most any other place. We were also out of school for the whole week last week too, but started back today.

Glad everyone's okay though!

It's so sad to see all of those mature trees just knocked over like that! Glad you have power, that must have been a long week.

thanks! My neighbors and I were starting to be like village people. We would make a fire and just sit and talk...it was crazy and awesome at the same time.lol
