Ok so this might be a stupid question, but we didn't have near as many leos as we did the last run of storms back in 04. What are you guys doing here for your leos as far as protecting them? The only thing I could think of if it looks that we're to be a direct/close to direct hit/super bad weather etc, is to deli cup everyone and place in a big box in our safe room.
I don't have a safe enough closed place for all the bins. But I figured in deli cups it would sort of be like travelling to a show or something for a few hours? I have all our pet supplies stored ok for after, I just couldn't think of how to keep the leos safe.

I really don't think storm is going to be that bad...even a cat. 1 isn't anything except a glorified thunder storm IMO. The power may go out but that's about it. I would just put them in the room with you in delis if the storm looks like it's going to be bad. But if it doesn't look that bad, I wouldn't stress the geckos any. Hunker Down!

Don't know. Tropical storm Francis ripped half our roof off (other house). And did a lot of damage to Pinellas county if I remember right. I know a lot of stores had damage and were closed down. Guess we'll see. So far they're predicting us to be the back side of the storm which is bad, so....

We were in Ground Zero when Charlie hit and our snakes didn't take too kindly to the barometric pressure changes. We'll be moving them into the main part of the house and watching them for escape attempts. Hopefully we won't loose power this time. :(

Where I'm from we have a lot of Hurricanes & because I'm handicapped I have 2 always b someplace that has electricity or a generator like a Hospital, Air-Port or with some1 that has power. The last big Hurricane we had & was in was Hurricane Katrina we had 2 move 6 times back then, 1. Hospital 2. My Aunts House 3. Some House 4. My Sister's House 5. Trailer 6. Back At Home :) . What should I do with the gecko & its stuff if something like that ever happened again?

Don't ever underestimate any storm, EVER!! Hope is all you can do, but full prep is my reccomendation for everyone in the path of the storm. I went through Rita and Katrina as category 1's in Miami and they'll mess up everything in there way. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Oh yes... we definitely are making sure to be as ready as we can be. We just saw the updated forecast. Shes due to hit land square on top of us. Hopefully prayers will be answered and she'll come in no stronger than a thunderstorm.

When Charlie hit us, he hit as a catagory 4. No one here was ready as it was supposed to hit 80 miles north. Won't be making that mistake again.

After my experience with a severe storm that did some damage to my house and had power down for 26hrs in 40 deg temps, I got a generator! Fortunately 40s are doable for leos in the short term, other sensitive guys that I had with no power got heat packs in their set-ups.

I did notice that many leos did a stress poop, pooping out what they ate with not much digestion. When things got back to normal they were fine (normal poops again), I did not lose anyone, even my Phelsuma and 50+ species I keep.

Best of luck to you in the storm.

I live in the Ocala area, and have three Leos. We may have to evacuate where we live right now because the structure isn't that good, and apparentally I can't bring my 3 Leos and Dwarf Sungazer with me. I only have about 3 Deli cups, but I have bigger enclosures where they can go, but still be stored. What should I do? Leave them in their tanks?

Put the deli cups in:

1) an ice chest (open to aerate once in a while). If you don't have, one cheapo styro ice chest at the store with some airholes punched in it will do.

2) a small cardboard box.

3) a pillowcase. Works with out deli cups if you ran out. Tie shut with string

This will do fine for temporary, keep a mister with you and mist them when you can.

Best of luck to you!

Installed a whole house generator and 500 gal. propane tank after the storms two years ago. We had a tornado take roofs off less than two miles west of us a few hours ago. Just checked the geckos and they all have their little fingers crossed.
