Hello. I have three females: a three month old Mack Snow, a three week old Super Sunglo tremper carrot tail (so pretty) and a Hypo Enigma who is also a baby about a month old. I would like to breed them but I am not sure which males to match up with them. I am not interested in making super snows but I am not sure how to get the other interesting morphs.

I know the parents and grandparents of the Sunglo are are the same type she is. I assume the mack snow's parents are a mack and a normal but I will ask. The enigma in anyone's guess... she has an orange dot on top of her head, she has a white head with a few black dots, a white tail with a few black dots, and a body pale pinkish tan with a few darker tannish areas. I am not if I should even keep her. She is cute but I don't think I will be able to handle her too well. She is very jumpy and hyper and has a crazy look in her eye... like a cartoon character. I heard enigmas can be that way... but that was after I bought her.

I like to raise them from babies so I would like to get one or two males in the near future. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

The hypo doesn't look like a engima. Usually they have a distinctive tail and more random spotting. Interesting coloration on the head of the first one very pretty.

The first one is the enigma. She is a strange little one. She looks up in the air all the time and I cant even put my pinky lightly on her back. She freaks out. and she stands up alot of the time. She just seems like a nervous wreck. (I have a very old camera and tle flash kept whiting her out because of the reflections I think)

Enigma syndrome, the looking up in the air is called star gazing. How does she feed? Any circling or walking wobbly?

I wouldn't breed that enigma in that case. Enigmas that show obvious signs on the syndrome should not be bred.

Why do you want to breed? Any reason?

Like has been said, don't breed the enigma. The Mack is nice but mediocre quality, so look for something of high quality to breed with her. The find a super mode sunglow for the sunglow female or a nice snow.

I would not breed the enigma, I think it's a shame that people know this happens they still breed them only to get a certain look. She is very cute... I just feel like she is not happy. I got the little sunglo cuz she was so friendly.

I want to breed because I love animals and these guys are so cute. I give them alot of attention. I just figured if I decided have a batch of babies I would like them to have a good match for parents. That's why I was asking for suggestions. Like I said... I don't care about a super snow or a specific look but I want to make babies that would be healthy and not mix genes that would make them weak.

Good for you for having the sense not to breed your enigma !!.Your right people intentionally breed enigmas knowing full well there will be physical defects

I think maybe you'd be better off just keeping geckos for a while before you consider breeding. Giving them lots of attention is great, but that gets a lot more difficult once you have 20+ geckos to care for. And two female can potentially produce 40+ babies, that's a lot of mouths to feed and a lot of poop to clean up; it can get a lot less "cute" over time. And you have to be prepared for the fact that you may not be able to find homes for all the babies, so you may be cleaning and feeding them for their life span(up to 20 years). Not trying to put you down, just saying you may want to consider just keeping and enjoying geckos for a while and gain some experience(I believe at least a year's worth is necessary) before you jump on the breeding band wagon.

wow i read all the post and found it kinda funny that nobody said that the op is atleast 2 years from breeding anyways so i would think that they will have more experiance then a year befor they jumped on said band wagon

anyways the pairings are all up to you if you want to make some cool geckos get another mac snow or sunglow to make the ones you have or you could go with something different if you dont want to breed on a large scale then just pick ones you like but just remeber in 2 years you will have 25plus mouths to feed and care for and house until you have a buyer for them and sometimes it can be very hard to find buyers

Took the words right out of my mouth, Ted. The other point I usually bring up for breeding is that breeding should be done for a purpose. Example: improving the general health of the population by breeding particularly sound/hardy individuals, or by breeding for very docile tempers. In the leopard gecko world, breeding for a superior color morph is a somewhat acceptable goal :D

In short, animals should not be bred just because they are "cute" or because you have a viable male and female and well, gee, wouldn't it be a shame to let their reproductive potential go to waste?

I must be misunderstanding this. The OP didn't say they were going to wait for two years before breeding, so why would they be? The leos will be ready in six months or so, so the OP could have eggs hatch in May.

Where did the two years come from?

Incorrect. Leopard geckos are quite capable of being bred at 9 months to a year. So the oldest hatchling could be bred in 6 months, assuming it is up to weight at that time. The other two are also within the 1 year period.

Breeding bc they are cute, isn't a good reason.

There are tons of people breeding. Definitely just raise as pets for a while, and get the hang of care before breeding.

You do have about a year before the geckos are breeding size, bit i would suggest waiting for the male. It is hard to get into this hobby with all the others breeding for cuteness.

Breeding isn't by age, but weight. 55-60 grams can be reached well before two years old and will still be just as safe with all the same risks
