I am trying to see who would be interested in participating

We were thinking anyone that has joined after August 1st will have to either have their own secret santa or not be able to participate this year. We could have a group for those that have been active for more a certain time and are active on the boards if that makes people more comfortable.

I can't even afford christmas/hannukah presents for some of my own family this year. I'm out. Sorry.

I don't think join date has anything to do with being a "known member"...I think it should be folks that have, say, 200 or 300 posts or more, and even then, I think those posts should be scrutinized by whoever is setting up the whole thing.

well the time limit was to avoid anyone joining just to participate in the secret santa. It wasnt really suppose to tell the known from unknown. I think one of the rules is you have to be an active member and not just have 100 posts of wow cool.

We have not decided on everything I just wanted to get an idea of who would be interested and who wouldnt. Noone should feel obligated and those who do participate should be ready to follow through no matter what the amount.

I did keep a list of "bad santas" for the past two years, and we have not had repeat offenders. The bad santas were notified of their status and then banned from participatinf in future exchanges. I'll find you guys that list.

Trader ratings can also help with knowing who's been around awhile and are active on the board.

I would probably join if the group was more for the regulars here.

I'm not sure how fair itrader rating grouping would be. I've been around for years, but mostly sell to people outside GF and have only had 3 rated transactions in the forums. That being said, I have a high rating. But anyone with even one successful transaction would have a high itrader rating, wouldn't they? So I would be tempted to look at the number of ratings (for instance, Kristi, I more than trust your 73), however, that would probably leave me out of the group. :/ something to think about, I guess.

It shouldn't be the only thing, but just another thing to look at. Someone with even one positive has shown themselves to be good so far.

If we get to many participants then it might be too time consuming to gather a case history on everyone, at least one that is very involved. Unless some people want to volunteer for it. I have purchased through the board but a smaller breeder so my iTrader is still 0. My last Geckos I bought directly from TUG so didn't get any credit through them. For those who do SS this year and follow through can we add that "credit" to their iTrader? We will probably stick with higher requirements for higher levels of money, it will save some admin time but also make it much less likely that someone will spend a lot of money and get cheated.

Though if we get more volunteers we can do more. If someone wants to make a matrix on those who decide to join in we could take it into consideration, especially when it comes to the amount of money people want to be involved in.

We are trying to see about including minors but if we do include minors we would need phone consent by the parents and you have to stay in the lowest price bracket ($25) We will update once I find out if we can include minors. Also if we have enough minors we will probably pair minor with minor.

I know this would probably seem unfair to people, but why not make the person pay a deposit for their price bracket to a very trusted person in charge :p that they'd get back once their SS receives their present?
That way, at least if they don't buy the present then the ss receiver can get the money instead.

It seems fair to me, that's what I'd do. And if somebody is willing to spend up to 200 dollars on somebody they don't even know I'm sure they'd be okay with setting up a deposit because they know they'd get it back after their present is received.

It makes more sense than barring people just because they're new. Newbies aren't always dishonest haha.
not that I want to be in the SS as I am wanting to spend it on my own family/friends, just a suggestion!
