Being older, he would be best a bit under weight IMHO due to being less active and mostlikely feeling his age in his joints. So if you think 80, he may be best gaining 50-60? Ask the vet his views on the weight issue.
I think so too, Ill get a full body photo tomorrow and get your thoughts as well. Im not used to anything larger than a too large for standard Rottie, nothing close to a Neo Mastiff.
Im thinking that at optimal weight 80 and maybe best for him less than that for his age.
awe poor skinny boy! He is somewhat comical looking all skinny like that though.......his head looks GINORMOUS...I mean...granted they have big heads....but...sheesh...looks like he should be falling forward on his nose.
I dont' find his condition comical in any way....I think its horrible that he was allowed to get into that condition..... But I do find the way his head looks somewhat comical compared with the size of his body. Trust me...I know what a mastiff should look like....and I really do think its aweful that he's in that condition.....I'm not some horrible person that finds abused/neglected animals amusing..........I'm able to find some humor in his appearance b/c I know he's in a good situation now and is going to get the care he deserves.
Its upsetting to me to see him like this and I can't find any humor in any of it, Im just not capable of it. Some people can find humor in bad things to make it easier to take I guess, Im just not one of them.
Im glad his owner was able to see he needed to give him up and Im glad he called me back on the way to animal control or he'd probably not even be alive.
He is eating much better yesterday and today than he was when I got him Tuesday.
I was having a hard time getting him to eat much at all and yesterday I got about to eat about 5 cups today he has already eaten about 4 cups and a meal left later tonight.
Poor thing. He is a very beautiful dog. Hopefuly with alot of love and care he will be just fine. I have a bull mastiff and they are the most loving and caring dogs. Mine loves and loves and loves and plays well with the kids. IMO I think Mastiffs are the greatest. Just make sure he doesnt miss a meal even if it is a small one. It sounds like he is already improving. Good luck
Bailey passed away today, he was acting funny last night and I barely got him to eat a tiny of food from my hand so we let him stay in most of the night. I let him out about 2 am and he was fine or appeared to be at 4am when I went to try to feed him again and refill his water. Rodney left for work at 4:30am and said he was up walking around when he left.
Me and Em went to go pick up Cody at my moms around 1pm and he was laying down in the shade and lifted his head but didn't run over to the edge of the fence to say good bye liek normal. We went shopping for him and got some liver and lard and a few other items the rescue I talke to recommended to get him to eat. When we got home around 3pm I told the kids to let him in and Cody came back in crying that Bailey wouldn't get up and that his belly wasn't moving.
I ran out and he was no longer with us. What a bad sad day, I wanted to make his last days nicer and I hope I did.
