i HATE THE DENTIST!

Before when I had decent dental coverage I went to a nice little place where the same person did everything. Checked your Xrays, did the cleaning and anything else you might need. Since I no longer have the luxury of being able to afford that insurance I got stuck with Medicaid through HIP and they are CRAP when it comes to dental coverage. I shouldn't be complaining because a lot of people don't have dental coverage and must pay out of pocket but this is ridiculous.

Each time I go I have to wait a least an hour and a half to have Xrays taken. Then go back in the waiting room to wait for ANOTHER to actually see the dentist. At that point the doctor puts on some gloves, gets the little mirror on a stick looks around my mouth then looks at my xrays and goes "Everything looks fine thanks for coming don't forget to make an appointment to for your cleaning." FINE! I make the appointment for like a month later come back, wait another hour to see a Hygienst who cleans my teeth. If I had a cavity, etc I'd have to make ANOTHER appointment at a later date to fill it in. WTH?

My wisdom teeth have been KILLING oh so softly for over a week already. My gums are swollen and tender, that I can hardly speak, eat or brush my teeth. My ears and my head hurt because of it and I've been having to take 1000mg of tylenol every night just to fall asleep so I called my dentist. The woman is absolutely rude! I tell her about my wisdom teeth and she's like, "So. Whats your problem because that's totally normal and it's going to be hurting until they come out completely." I'm pissed but ask for an appt. anyway to see if my dentist would be willing to extract them because they're all half out but I have 3 that seem to be hauling tail in my mouth right now to come out and I just can't handle it anymore. So she's all, "Fine, Whatever you want." I ask her whats the soonest appointment? She tells me, "Oh we have an appoint open on January 12th at 4pm!" THAT's SOON!?

Now I'm stuck calling my insurance trying to find another place that might be a little less packed and more orderly. Grr.. My mother's only solution is go to the ER and tell them you can't take the pain anymore, but I feel bad taking the space of someone in the ER who might REALLY need emergency medical attention and I don't feel like waiting 39485739478 hours until they call a dentist down to check my mouth.

Just Grrrrrrrr... Grrrrrrr is all I can really do, lol

In most cases, the ER or a regular doctor won't touch your mouth. They may just give you a numbing cream or something. :-/

I'm not a fan of the dentist either. Last time I went, the technician dug at my back gums hunting for wisdom teeth, after she already asked if I had them removed (which was no) and after she looked at my x-rays to see they weren't there. I won't be going back there again. I have another appointment Tuesday at a different place.

Good luck...

Thanks.

My mom only suggested it because that's the way she had her's removed. She went to the local hospital groaned and moaned until they called a dentist and he prepped her for surgery with a few hours and removed all 4 at the same time. I doubt it'll be the same now since so many dentist are so picking about health insurance and all the new rules, etc.

I also tried going to my first ever dentist and sadly he doesn't take my insurance :( and was charging me like $130 for a visit, xrays and cleaning. I'm terrified to see what an extraction will cost me. ugh.

Now to battle with this crummy insurance to find someone that will see my mouth.

I'm not going back to my dentist regardless. I made the appt just in case I can't find anyone. But the last time I was in pain and had a flap of gum just hanging there he didn't do anything. Even after he saw food was getting stuck in the flap, I couldn't brush it because it hurt so much and I was basically chewing on it because it was right there, he said oO you'll chew it off sooner or later. I could extract them but I choose not to.. ugh.

i love going to the dentist i would suggest finding not only a dentist but a dentist that is a maxillofacial surgeon for your wisdom teeth. i had four impacted wisdom teeth and they had to cut them out. my regular dentist actually suggested this because mine were so bad. also if you end up getting your wisdom teeth removed by a maxillofacial surgeon, it generally falls under a medical procedure and not a dental procedure and insurance covers most of it (depending on your copay and deductible and such)

We were just at the dentist today! It's so hard to find a great dentist. Mine is awesome, I've been going to him since I was 12. LOL The downside is that he's an hour away and the last time they found a cavity while cleaning my teeth we had to schedule an appointment for a month later. We also don't have insurance and he's not cheap. Between Keith and I we've spent over $1300 there this year.

Good luck finding a new, insurance approved dentist!

I know that it is a bit of an old thread, but ask your dentist for a syringe with a curved plastic needle on the end. I had impacted wisdom teeth and with the gum being over the tooth it caused food to get stuck and rot my tooth, causing bad breath and a lot of pain. Went to my dentist and he gave me the syringe and referred me to another maxillofacial surgeon, because the original one that he referred me too, would not accept my calls or return them if he did accept them. Contacted the new maxillofacial surgeon and I was in his office within the week, and had all 4 wisdow teeth out in 2 weeks, when I had the time to take off work and recover before heading back out into the forest.

My teeth were already partially out and it cost me $1400 to have them removed, the anesthesia cost the most for my procedure because of my size, $350 @ 250lbs, and I actually woke up during the procedure, which is a rare occurance, so they had to knock me out again, so the surgeon could continue.

It was not as bad for me as people make it out to be. I was eating solid food the same day and chewing my stitches out because the surgeon stitched my cheeks over the lower openings in the to keep the holes clean, but that did not allow me to really open my mouth, so the stitches had to go.
