I think that's the right expression, and I'm not upset at all because I love my lovely Luella, but I really think someone colored her.

Ever since I've brought her home she has gotten a dirtier look to her, and her tail has turned grey next to those black spots and all around she has dulled out and just looks dirty, and not like a clean SHTCTB.

Then I looked at her water, and it's dirtier than anyone elses water, and it had orange in it, I have no idea where that orange came from. Their is nothing that I have that is orange, not my gut load, not my calcium, not anything and yet here is what looked like orange paint smeared in her water bowl in several places, not just a dull kind of orangish, no it's orange like the EXACT same color as the CT, trust me I know colors, and this is idtentical.

I know I've heard of people coloring Uros but they wouldn't do that to Leos too would they?

If my camera batteries weren't dead I'd take a picture (oh and it was the same consistancy as like food coloring or paint, it is the weirdest thing.

I have never heard of anyone coloring a leo before.
I have heard of people feeding hatchlings foods with dyes in it to color
them, but that is something different.
Your evidence sounds very compelling, but just how would one go about
coloring a leo?

Do you use calcium plus? I noticed when it gets wet, it smears around the tubs orange. I see it on the paper towels all the time. A lot of my hatchlings will walk in their water dish and then walk thru the calcium powder.

Hmmm, I use calcium plus and have never noticed this.
Just so we are on the same page, you are talking about the Repashy stuff, right?

I also use the Repashy Calcium plus and have noticed the orange from time to time.

I guess you'll know when she sheds? If someone did color her that was pretty deceptive of them, but wouldn't the paint come off (or crack) with handling and with her rubbing against things? Hopefully you can get to the bottom of this.

I know some dishonest people will do anything for a buck, but still,
HOW do you color a gecko??

I mean, their not like Easter eggs you can just dip in food coloring! :main_huh:

Why dont you try giving her a little warm bath?

If coloring is on her, I wouldnt think it would be very healthy!?

I would want to wash it off her ASAP!

Than I would go and find the moron who sold her to me :main_angry:

Yes, the rephashy calcium plus in the bag. Not all of my geckos are messy and I don't see it in their tubs. I just have a select few that get really bad. I see orange on the paper towels almost everyday. I do feed the mealworms carrots, but they're not gushing them all over. It's even gotten on the bottoms of their feet and tails.

That is strange.
I give carrots to everything; mealies, crix, dubias, and the calcium plus does
get wet sometimes (esp. w/ cricket "blood") and I have never seen any orange (or any other color) from it. :main_huh:

When you say they are "messy" what exactly do you mean?

Okay I think i've gotten to the bottom of this...

I think it might be the calcium maybe. I use T-rex leopard gecko calcium and so maybe that's it
because coloring her (if I was smart I would have figured this out)
isn't possible because well I just watched her shed like a couple days ago,lol and yeah I think it would have come off then

I also took some of the paper towels I was using to dim the heating pad and it was staying at between 85-91 so now it's back up again but still no real change

it's very odd but hmmm

I have several SHCTB that change in color due to stress and or temperature.

Are you housing this leo with any others?

Is the leo eating normally?

What are you using for a wet hide?

What are your temps and do the temps change any?

nope it's housed in it's own tank
yup it's eating like a pig, even had some calcium sacs for a couple of days
It has a tupperware container covered with black construction paper, and tape and moss for the humid part
My temps, I honestly don't think my thermeter is right
It was at 105 when I got her (stupid misreading air thermeters, got a surface one)
and then i put some papertowels to dim it, then got it down to 100
added some more
down to 95
just kept adding till I finally got it to stay at 85, I can't get it to be at 90, it's 85-89 or high 90s
that's when her color started fading was once I lowered the temps down to regulation. So I decided to see what would happen if I took out half of the papertowels and had it read at 100 again and her color seems to become cleaner again, so I'm wondering if that stupid thermometer is wak

Oh yah and since my t-rex leo stuff has run low I switched to this white calcium + D3 stuff (keekeio eats it like crazy, and you'd think I don't dust, lol)

You probably shouldn't go above 94 degrees fahrenheit, especially on a plastic tub. The gecko could get thermal burn if it's too hot.
