Sorry for all the fish comparisons.. I guess I am a bit of a fish nerd and forget that not everybody else is into it like I am >_< (wrong forum!)

So I am curious who does use panacur as a preventative?

Treating any animal for undiagnosed sickness, disease, or parasite load with any drug/medication is not the proper course of action... Using meds in this fasion can do much more harm than good... Even using "safe" meds like Panacur as a preventative is not a good idea and is not a substitute for proper husbandry...

Proper husbandry will prevent and reverse many reptile illnesses including URIs and parasites... Medication should be the very last resort...

Keep in mind that deworming meds have proven to cause low fertility in reptiles that have been treated... This includes the supposed safe drugs... Antibiotics not only kill bad bacteria but they also kill good bacteria that help digest food and that keep fungi and other bacteria at bay...

When reptiles are kept properly they have some of the strongest immune systems in the animal world... Their way of fending off disease and parasites is much better than any medication you can pump into them...

Hitting our reptiles with medications and keeping them in sterile conditions is not doing them any good... Being on the "safe side" is not always the best choice for our reptilian captives... Their actual requirements being met are much more important than a keepers piece of mind or ease of maintaining their caging...

So the bottom line here is, if you are keeping your reptiles properly, most of these sicknesses would be prevented and in the right conditions, parasite loads, URIs and other sicknesses can easily be cured without medications... Everything that goes good or goes bad with our captive reptiles always goes back to husbandry...
