Hello,

I have had my leopard gecko for a little over a month now. He is a male, he weighs 25 grams and he is 5 1/2 months old. When I bought him, the breeder said he ha 'Giant Line' in him. When I got him, I knew he was on the smaller side and I woulds fatten him up. Well, it has been about a month and has only grown one gram since I've had him.

Does all of this sound normal to you? If not, do you have any suggestions?

Here is a link of him next to a dollar-

He look little skinny. Try waxworms. Easy on these. maybe give him two of these. Or give him mealworms often. OR Try superworms. :)

Hi Shawn,

There he is!! His tail looks very good and normal :main_yes: I wouldn't worry. His body seems to be a little on the thin side, but since he's eating superworms, he's probably fine and will gain more weight soon. A fecal sample cannot hurt.

At 5 months old, he's too young for his three former female cage mates, anyway (at 9 month, you can start breeding him, depending on his weight and whether his females are about 60 grams and ovulating). Keeping him separate and fattening him up during the meantime will get him ready for his job :)

Good luck! He's a nice-looking boy.

I just bought a Blck Light today, and I'm glad I did that!

I seen him eat 4 crickets! maybe he only wants to eat when it is dark out? I don't know, but I am a happy gecko camper now!

thanks,
Shawn H

Shawn, you have been keeping him under lights for heat. It is totally normal for gecko not to eat and be stressed out by the light. If you keep the lights on him and he doesn't eat, don't be surprised to see the gecko lose weight.

How much did the gecko weigh when you received it and how much has it grown in the amount of time you had it?

He grew almost 5 grams a month until you received him and only 1 gram in 5 weeks since you had him. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I told you this before you bought him, I told you this the first week when you called me, the second week, the third week, in the forums on the forth week, and again here in the forums on the sixth week.

Ultimately you can do what you want, but please understand that the fate of this gecko is in your hands and it is and will be your responsibility!

He has been off lights totally for about two weeks now. I was at ***** and there black lights were on sale. and I figured that I might as well but one for the daytime.

but my next question is- Do I leave the black light on 24/7?

Are you still using overhead light or did you just switch from white light to black light?

I was off lights totally and i was using the natual light in my room light up my tank for 2 weeks.
But now I am on Black light and he seems to like that alot more!

You really don't need any extra light source at all. The heat from your under tank heater should be sufficient. What is the thermometer on the hot side reading without a light on? You can just turn the black light on at night when you want to look at him but there's no reason to leave it on.

about 100 degrees farenheight, but I have a couple layer of paper towel to bring the temperature to about 94 degrees
