Just found out one of my leo's has pinworms.

Gus has not been eating as well as he should so I submitted a stool sample to my regular vet and it came back positive for pinworms. Ugh. Should I have all my leo's checked? I have 4 others and two of the others haven't been eating that well either. Could they be given meds without confirming stool sample? What would the correct dosage and medication be for treatment? I'm going weigh him and hopefully she can give me the meds without me having me to bring him in. How do you administer the meds?

I'd plan on treating all of them. Crickets can bring those in to your group. Have you bought pet store crickets recently? I've heard they can be the source of worms.

Yes, that's where I get my crickets. I think I will have all of them treated. Hopefully I don't have to pay for 5 fecals though.

Pinworms are SUPER common in reptiles, and you should not treat an animal that isn't symptomatic. Meaning, treat the one that's sick, and don't worry about the rest of them unless you see signs of illness.

It's best to only use the suspension form of panacur that is available through a vet.

This is the best way to both measure it and dispense it is using a plastic syringe and a ball tip dosing needle.

If you go to the vet or a pharmacy (like CVS for example), just ask them for a small medical syringe that is able to measure 1cc. They will typically just give you one for free.

Edit: 0.1cc is seriously only a drop or two, so you REALLY don't need much.

+1

Folks, you can't just be self medicating. The stuff you get online is meant for large animals like horses and cows! It's very easy to make a mistake with dosages. I won't give out ANY dosages because a.) it's against my code of ethics as a veterinary technician and b.) I would be liable for anything that happened to the animal after it was given. Suppose you gave 4cc instead of .4? You know? Panacur can be very dehydrate animals if overdosed.

Would you guys just go online and just grab some random medicine if you or one of your kids had some kind of parasite?
