Just Ridiculous

Today at work a little boy came in with his parents. Cute little boy and really nice parents but he had on a blue shirt that said gecko on it. The picture below the word gecko was of a chameleon. I was just stunned at first. Someone really messed up and then I fought with myself because I really wanted to tell that little boy that it wasn't a gecko. How does that kind of ignorance get out into the real world. I just had to share.

They had what looked like a brown gecko on Go Diego Go the other day that they called an iguana the whole episode. It was driving me absolutely insane. My kids were annoyed too. My 5 year old kept saying that anyone could tell it was a gecko not an iguana but because iguanas would have run up into the trees by now. Then she would roll her eyes. lol

Ach, you're stronger than I am. I have one of those know-it-all personalities that HAS to correct things like that...ALWAYS. It gets annoying to people..but I mean, come on! If I were doing/thinking something wrong I'd want to know about it!

And then people like that mass-distribute their ignorance/stupidity whatever...

That is awesome. I had a friend who's son did the same thing when they were showing construction equipment on a cartoon once, and using the incorrect names. I used to do the same thing when they would show ballet dancers with their shoes tied wrong or using the wrong terms for dance steps. I say the ignorance factor will always be there no matter what.

From the time I was old enough to know what animals *were,* it has bothered me to no end how often people mix up completely different species like that.

"Monkeys" and "Lizards," in particular, seem to be seen as one giant and varied species (rather like thinking Africa is a country ;) ) - Curious George was obviously a chimpanzee. :tongue3:

And don't get me started on rodents - there's a YouTube video calling a hamster a squirrel (or maybe vice versa - either way, what the heck?!), and an episode of That Girl had a big Syrian hamster being called a mouse.

Calling a gecko an iguana - on an "educational" show, no less - is pretty bad. :laugh4:
