I'm sorry, I think there was a misunderstanding the percentage of a Mack Afghan cross x Mack Afghan cross would result in a higher percentage of Afghan than the original crosses. You are correct that breeding Mack Afghan x Afghan would give you even a higher percent.:main_thumbsup:

Is this percentage quantifiable? Is it more like a probability or a range rather than an actual fact like X + Y = Z?
Im sorry I just want to make sure I understand 100% before I get involved in breeding them.

Hey Michelle I call my crosses as (sub-species) cross and when there is more than 50% blood line of the sub-species I call it as the morph with the sub-species name. There is not a writen rule but it is what I am doing you can even notice in the Afghan Raptor that are you getting from Eric he doesn't look like any other Raptor and that is basically because of the precense of the Afghan gene. If you want to get purest Afghan cross which will be something like 99.9% Afghan/Raptor will take you at least 18 years (for heterozygous genes) to produce it and this is taking in consideration that every time that you cross a --%Afghan het Raptor x --% Afghan het Raptor you will get a --%Afghan Raptor. In the case of a dominat gene it will take you only 9 years. BTW that Afghan Raptor that you are getting is just insane!!!!!!!

I dont really want to produce pure afghan raptors or anything like that. Just making sure I understand what is going on and how to identify future babies :)

I have started hatching some crosses here and I'll probably call them something like "Eclipse with Afghan influence" or something similar.

It's more a probability rather than an actual fact. For example, when breeding Afghan Het. R.A.P.T.Or x R.A.P.T.Or your offspring will vary, not all will have Afghan traits such as size and skull structure, but when breeding Afghan Het. R.A.P.T.Or x Afghan Het. R.A.P.T.Or your outcome of offspring is increased that will display Afghan traits. To most people it's unnoticeable but the difference is clearly there.

I would think that by saying mack afghan, most people would know that they are crosses, especially when asked the parents. I guess I'll start putting the word cross in my titles to make it more obvious.

ETA: All my afghan poss het eclipse came from Eric. I never thought they were pure when buying them. Most people would know that you've bred an afghan to and eclipse, etc. All of my crosses look different than normals. The non-mack babies definitely have the afghan look/influence.

I agree that most people who are buying them would know that they are crosses. But why not denote that just in case a new breeder or someone who doesnt know that can make an educated purchase and label and market their offspring accordingly as well. I don't honestly mind if they are or not labeled that way its just my opinion on the topic.

I have no problem adding it and will from now on. I just think it's kind of a silly thing to argue about. Richard's post is very good to show that none of them are going to be pure. I always disclose all genetics about every animal I sell.
