Hey guys,

I would like to buy a bulk shipment of 500 mealworms. I looked online and found a few places but I don't know who's got a good reputation and pricing.

I see the range from $10-35 for 500 medium mealies.

Let me know who you guys use that buy bulk mealworms. Only place I know is timberline but there site has no pricing.

Thanks in advance looking to purchase 500 in the next 24 hours.

If I do have to order some mealworms, I order through grubco. You can get 1000 for about $14 or 5,000 for around $32 shipped. I haven't had any issues ordering from them.

I second Grubco.com. They are based out of Ohio and I get 5000 shipped for right around $30. Petco an Petsmart sell 500 mealworms for around $7.00. Your local bait shops may sell them as well. 500 is a pretty small quantity to order online. Shipping usually makes it not as economical for such a small quantity.

I bought the $7 500 mealworms from Petco. They were very healthy and alive. Just ask the store when they get a new shipment if they ran out or don't have fresh ones. I'm pretty sure I got more than 500.

Just ordered 1000 medium mealworms from Grubco. $14 with shipping and handling. Very thankful for the tip.

1000 should last me at least 3 months. Hope they all survive that long. Gonna do more research on how to store them for that long. I am assuming refrigerator but wifey won't let that happen so I might buy a portable small refrigerator.

For sure. I would be glad to. I was gonna take pictures and write a review. So far so good. I ordered at midnight and at noon today they shipped out the 1000 mealworms and said it would take 1-3 days. I will keep you posted.

grubco.com has always been good for me. I've always gotten my meal worms in great condition with a healthy over count. They are delivered in a bag with newspaper. You should be happy with your order!

well today is day 4 and I still haven't gotten my Grubco order, and the tracking sucks from USPS Priority Mail. I'm sure I will get the delivery tomorrow, but this means my mealworms are sitting on a truck somewhere or in a warehouse waiting to be shipped out tomorrow morning. Look forward to seeing them. I'm sure once they arrive I will be happy with the order, but not happy with the delivery.

So where do I start. Here is my Review of Grubco...mixed emotions on overall transaction.

I ordered 1000 mealworms on 7/31/2012, and they shipped my box out the next day at noon time, great start. I didn't recieve my shipment until today at 1pm. Took me almost a week to get my shipment, and they sent me a confirmation number that they shipment was sent, but no tracking number until I contacted them asking where my mealies were. Finally after getting the shipment, I was pleased to see that most of them looked very good and healthy at least, but I didn't have time to examine the entire shipment due to I had to run back to work. Wasted my entire lunch break driving to my house to put mealworms inside versus leaving it outside.

If I used Grubco again, I would like it to be easier to select shipping methods that will show up on a certain date, I would have gladly paid more money on shipping to have them get here either on Thursday of last week, or Saturday.

Overall, I don't want to bash them, but this wasn't the best first time experience due to they told me my shipment was gonna be in within 1-3 days, 5 days later they showed up. I'm sure i will have some dead mealies since they sat in a warehouse for the weekend.

I bought 1000 mealworms on ebay from mrcc800 last week for $14. I made the purchase on Monday (7/30) they were shipped out USPS Priority mail Tuesday and at my door Thursday. They were sent asking for delivery conformation and I missed the postman so I had to pop over to the post office to pick them up but they were available by the end of the day so it wasn't a big deal.

A few years ago I used to order quite a bit from lllreptile.com and they always sent exactly what I ordered and their insects always arrived healthy. They ship overnight so they're a bit more pricey (~$25/1000 mealworms) than those companies that use priority mail but may be more economical if you're ordering a lot of bugs at once :)

I'm gonna get my next batch from your guy from eBay. Thank you for the tip. There's no reason why a guy on eBay should be faster the. A company like Grubco.

Ohio to CT and yours came sooner using priority mail.

What a nightmare, these medium mealworms are smaller than I thought, the medium mealies from petco are bigger. Some were dead, but for the most part they came in nicely. Look healthy and such, but the "bag" is a nightmare, and i don't understand why they ship them out like that. Makes no sense to me. Took me forever to get them out of the bank and into a nice sandwich container. They were crawling all over the sides of the bag, and then when I tried turning the bag inside out, they got all over my kitchen floor. ARG! I pray that all feeders don't come in this way. I will be using another vendor for my next purchase. Ebay or Petco or Fluker.

The guy I ordered from on eBay also sent them in a linen bag with newspaper in it - so get ready for more fun. Get a mop bucket or a plastic storage box. Then you can turn the bag inside out and shake without fear of them flying everywhere. Once they're dumped into one of those you can more easily pour them into a smaller container since they can't hold onto the smooth plastic sides :)

^I did what you said and it was easier. I have them in a plastic yogurt type thing I got my other mealies in. Hope that's okay for storing. They are pretty small I'm sure Annie will crush them in month. I put 10 in the dish at 3pm and by 6 they were all gone. I put another 10 in 15 minutes ago to see how many is a good number at this size. I'm thinking 15-20 since she ate 8-10 mealies twice their size before.

About 50% of mine have turned into pupae now. The rest are basically immobile so the geckos aren't amused :p I think the smaller medium ones were a better purchase if you're feeding a small number of geckos. Hopefully in a month or so the baby ones from my original colony will be fat and tasty and the colony will be ona decent enough roll to sustain my geckos from there out <crossed fingers>

My local petco now has 500 count mealworms. Their fresh shipment is every Tuesday. May try them since they are fresh and local and bigger than the ones I got from Grubco.
