Mixing leopard geckos with viper geckos or others

Hi everyone -

I was wondering if I could add an adult viper gecko (3") to my 20 long tank with 2 female leos age 10 months. I've heard there can be risks with mixing species, but I could not find a description of what they exactly are or a clear reason why this couldn't be done successfully. Most people just wrote "don't do it" or "its dangerous" without explanation. Does anyone want to shed some professional light on to the topic?

My other idea was just putting up a glass divider and making giving 15 gal to the 2 leos and 5 to the viper.

Personally, If you did correct research on your animals youd know why they cant be together. Viper geckos have different heat and humidity requirements (they should be misted, leos do not need misting) Vipers aren't as nototrious as leos for licking everything so they can safely live on a fine sand substrate. theres a ton of reasons why you shouldnt.. Leo's can be twice the size of vipers, and while they may be sweet animals nature will take its course eventually. Their your pets do what you want but personally i wouldnt even tank divide because they have different heating requirements.

I am personally totally against mixing species. As some have already brought up leopard geckos will prey on viper geckos, they have different environmental requirements, and different daily care requirements. Also, when you mix species you risk exposing animals to diseases/parasites that may not be affecting the species they are carried by, but could potentially devistate a different species when exposed to them. And the majority of reptiles don't need or want a "buddy" to live with. They are solitary animals by nature. All cage mates represent are competition/stress inducers at best, and potential predators at worst. It's just not a good idea.

Two Types Of Needs

Vipers small size can appear as prey food
or reason to bully. Temperament different too.
Humidity requirements for Vipers can cause
respiratory problems in leopards.

Think this would be reasons enough but there
are more.
Take care....IMHO a no no.:main_no:
