I was wondering what you all use. I currently use bed-a-beast, and it's ok. I was just wanting something that didn't make soo much mess.

I was wondering, is moist beaked moss ok for the humid hide?

Apparently they will sometimes ingest vermiculite, so I don't know if that's the best, though several breeders do use it. I always use sphagnum moss. The gold colored stuff from New Zealand is the cleanest and best. All my animals love it.

Eco Earth coconut fiber is what I'm using, and my leos like the soft spongy texture. I also found that it holds the moisture longer than beaked moss or paper towels.

They will ingest any loose substrate you use. Does not matter what it is. They seem to be like Sharks and like to taste every thing they come in contact with. LOL I don't like Moss either there are very large long pieces in it which the Leo's will eat as well and I feel could be way more harmfull than a small pieces of Vermiculite. Also I don't like the way the Moss stains the undersides of the Leos the Brown/green color it is.JMO I only used Natural, all Organic Spag. Moss BTW.

I'm using moss for the laying females and moist paper towels for everyone else. It seems to work fine for them.:)

My moist hides for my hatchlings have the entry hole on the side so I use sphagnum moss for these hides. This is better than the coco-fiber as they tend to toss the coco-fiber out the hole and make a real mess in the tub. Also, I find the moss is harder to ingest due to it's long stringy nature.

For my adult females I use the coco-fiber as it seems to be better for digging and laying eggs. I keep the adult males on sphagnum moss or coco-fiber depending on what I have handy during cleaning day.

Either sphagnum moss or coco-fiber will last two months without any noticable degradation. Even after two months it looks OK to me but I change it out just to be safe.

I'm probably gogin to get some moss. For some reason, I really don't like the paper towels as the moist hide substrate too.

i use moist paper towels. The're really cheap , easily replacable, and easy to see when it's soiled.

I just picked up some Buss Bed-ding which is worm bedding made out of composted newspaper, I've heard other people in this forum use it and it stays moist for a longer period of time than moss. I'll update you guys how it works out for me once I have it up and running w/ my geckos.
