A Montanus or Eublepharis macularius montanus is a subspecies of leopard gecko. I know that A&M have some on their site, under their breeder link (http://www.amgecko.com/breeders_subspecies.html). I was interested to see the variety that this subspecies has, and since I’ve heard they are larger, I was interested in hearing how big the ones people on this site have.

That’s a great looking animal! Is she pure? Also, what does she weight in at, and how old is she?

Thanks, Nick

I worked with a group that I received from Kelli for a few generations. I did not notice any real size differences. The second generation, I used them to outcross some of my RW projects. I will be breeding those offspring soon.

Here is the origional group I had. Only one was labeled as a montanus, the other two are from outcrossing.

I have one, too. When I got her as a baby, she was whitish / ghost-like, but now she looks like any other normal gecko. She's wild-caught and was very skinny first, but now she has a fat tail like my other geckos. :D She sits on my hand quietly now - not wild any more! Here's Karachi:

Are you sure thats a Montanus, because that looks absolutely nothing like one. It looks so much like a Fasciolatus.

I have no clue! I bought her as a "montanus"; see my collection. I wouldn't mind if she were a fasciolatus, though. To me, she just looks very "normal." Instead of being of a larger size like the montanus, I have the feeling that she's rather short and chubby. Oh well...

I want to pair her with my Snow Enigma het Bell male next Spring; do you think that would be a good match? (I like their dots; and they're both white/black/a little yellow; and I would outcross the Engima that way).

Or should I pair her with one of my other males? If you have time, please take a look:

male 1: Snow Enigma het Bell
male 2: Bell Enigma
male 3: Jungle Rainwater Albino
male 4: 90% SHT carrot tail
male 5: Tangerine Jungle Albino.

Which one would be the best boyfriend for her???

Greets,

Chrissy

I would go with the Snow Enigma het Bell also. I just acquired a Snow Enigma x Fasciolatus from Golden Gate Geckos and she looks very different from other Snow Enigmas that I have. She is my favorite (but don't tell the others, lol).

IMO montanus are no larger then any of my other geckos they are about the same size as the fasciolatus that i have.
my findings are based on
I have 6 female montanus from Europe and the are first generation captive.

This little guy hatched out with the cool stripe on the tail, so i kept him not thinking much of it. He came from a mack enigma het tremper X pure fasciolatus.

and the weird part, the eyes.
