I got to thinking as much fun as it is to make gecko things.........some really nice stuff you don't have to make. I can't call them totally free because of the price of gas to find them, but call it business or hobby expense to drive a ways to areas to find them......If you know of a shallow creek bed to search around at, tropical fish shop, rock shop, landscaper....etc.. ..................
Sometimes you will find a dandy too.....
The first photo is a a large natural carved out rock I found at a friend's house, and talked him into giving it up. The gecks love it. ..Note the underside photo...it's their "shortcut" to the food dish....

Some burl wood can be found from up-rooted trees ( which we have had plenty of this year) or a wood working/ rock shop or a store that sells Wood burning equipment ( thats where this one came from....very smooth for crawling on or basking.....And turning them on different ends makes it seem like you have more than one.....and of course Curious Geckos want to explore.....both photos are the same piece...........

Drift wood can be found many places but can also be made if you can access a pressure washer. Be careful of the roughness of some though. You may have to sand some edges to make it safer.

Ordinary but nice rocks can be found as close by as your neighbor's landscaping. These are about 7" X 9" so you need a pretty good size place...Don't tell my neighbor, he's a mean non-gecko person.

I hope you enjoyed this but if you didn't, you take care anyway. HJ

Yeah my boyfriend is a roofer, so he's always at the sorts of places where you find these things... He's brought home like 7 rocks in the past week... He says "Now we can switch it up for him."

Thanks to everyone for taking a peek at these.
Yeah, I hadn't thought of the roofer's extra benefits like that. I know how hard those guys work though. So I hope he can get you a few of the customer's rocks from their landscaping to make up for it. Hot on those roofs this time of the year...... Take care. HJ

cleaning

I have one simple question.. How did you clean the items that you got?

I usually start all of them with a regular "dish soap" washing and hot rinse....then usually I will heat them either in the
micro ( put bowl of water in too) or a conventional oven at about 350 degrees for 40 minutes.. Cooling back down overnight......take care. HJ
