Mouthful of coconut fiber

I was watching my geckos tonight while sitting at the computer and while i was watching i saw one of my geckos jump off a vine and bite a mouthful of eco-earth. He was running around his cage and shaking his head for awhile and got most of it out, but i saw a little inside his mouth he didn't get out at first and i am afraid he may have swallowed it.

I put him in a small 10 gallon lined with papertowls for the night to be safe so i could monitor him but it still worries me.

If anyone has any tips or good ideas about what I could do other than wait that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I would wait, even if he did swallow it, a tiny bit will most likely pass without a problem. You could take him to a vet to be sure, but unless he shows signs of impaction you might be wasting time/money. This is, incedently, why I don't use loose substrates, you don't worry about impaction with paper towels. ;)

Coco fiber shouldn't make anything impacted, I use it for my leos & they dont ever have any problems with it.

Just be sure he's having regular bowel movements.

Just for the record, not to scare you at all: Coco fiber/EcoEarth actually can cause serious impaction in certain animals...I posted on a different thread regarding this stuff, but I once had a client with a pac man frog that passed away from an ecoearth impaction that wasn't caught early enough.

Well I'd like to get them off the eco-earth if there is a chance of an issue with them ingesting it.

Can anyone recommend a safer substrate? I thought about that reptile carpet stuff but I don't know if the geckos get stuck in it or not.

That's scary. It's what we keep our pacman in.

I use papertowles. They're easy to clean and no impaction risk. They will sometimes miss a roach and bite the paper for awhile, but they let go without eating it.
