My 23 Day Old Leopard Gecko :)

Hey everyone, my little guy was born on the 18th May 09. He is great at being handled (I try and hold/play with him for 15 mins a day) and eats fantastically (normally 4-6 medium gut loaded crickets).

My only concern is that he only eats crickets (leaves all other worms), however yesterday I tried him on a 1/3 cut up piece mario worm and he loved it (ate all 1/3 pieces). I really want to provide variety in his diet and mario worms are great to boost his size etc. Should I try reducing the amount of criskets I give him, and concentrate on weening him onto mario worm pieces (all food I provide him are coated in calcium too).

Many thanks guys

Zoophobas Morio, aka a super worm. :) Glad to hear that your gecko is eating them. You shouldn't have to cut them up. If you think they are too big just offer him smaller ones.

Ah ok, must be a scientific name thing then (afterall im a Bsc in Marine Biology so normaly used to calling a species such as a 'super worm' its proper name Zophobas morio lol). How would I go about weening my gecko off crickets (as a main feeder) to that of a morio/super worm. Is it simply depriving him of food until he accepts that the only food source available is a morio/super worm?

Many thanks

hmmm, maybe i should try to feed my baby cut up supers too. the uncut ones are WAY too big, they're even hard for my adults to eat sometimes. so i suggest you keep cutting them...

is it gross when you do? like, do guts go everywhere and stuff? because i want to try it

Hahaha ok thanks everyone. But in all serious, im finding it hard to ween him off crickets as a main feeder. Cut-up morio/super worms dont move enough for him to even notice so any other high fat food source would be appreciated :)

ITs accually better to have a little variaty in your diet, mine seem to grow more and faster when i started feeding supers and crickets back to back.

Cool ok. He just really isnt interested in any type of worm variety though. Tried both mealworm, superworms (cut-up which he ate 3 times). Grrrr this little guy's feedin habits is gettin to me.
