I am soooo in love with this boy! I have always wanted a GTP, but my husbands is afraid of snakes. He finally 'caved in' when I fell in love with this yearling male from Cathy Maynard at the NARBC Show last weekend.

I haven't decided on a name yet... maybe you could help me? I looked up several Indonesian (New Guinea) names and their meanings, and so far I narrowed it down to these:

Muluk - praised, exhaulted, worshipped
Malik - master
Chahaya - light, giver of light

Here is my new boy!!!

Congratulations!!! Heck of a first snake if you ask me!!! I know you are so going to love him, can hardly wait to see how his color change finishes up, you've got several fun months ahead!!

Did I hear "addiction"? Oh boy....... be careful, it can get real bad!

Forgot my two cents on the name!! Chahaya, giver of light.... spot on!!

How about Con from the Jungle Book.

Wasn't the snake named Kaa?
The rogue tiger was sher khan if I recall correctly.

Regardless, that's a beautiful animal, Marcia.
Enjoy him, whatever name you choose.

Thanks for the comments! I get 'goose-bumps' when I look at him! I totally love him. I have waited for 5 years to have him... and I am excited to watch how his color(s) develop over the next year.

Some people say that a GTP is not a good snake for first-time snake keepers, so I worry that I will not do him justice. I do have to say that the "chondro" people have been overwhelmingly supportive and gracious about holding my hand for the next few months as I discover all these new ideas and methods of keeping this magnificent animal.

I can do geckos in my sleep... so it is a little un-nerving for me to be out of my element. But, I know I will someday be in a 'new' element with my beloved new boy. I have dreamed of him for so many years...

I have talked to a few chondro people about his name, and they all like "Chahaya" or 'bringer of light'. So that's his name! (I'll probably use the nick-name "Cha-Cha", or just "Cha").
