I just went to the kitchen to get a glass of water when I heard this noise from outside that sounded like a baby crying. I ran to the window and it was a little cat not a kitten but not exactly a year old :( .

I'm almost in tears right now because he's scurrying around looking for an opening somewhere so I'm guessing someone just kicked him out or he escaped and is trying to find a warm place. I tried getting his attention so I can through down some food but he just ran even faster. Tomorrow I will be on a mission to find that cat and see if my vet can clean him up.

There are so many cats running around out here. It makes me so sad everytime I hear one crying. Especially right now with our super low temps. I can't understand why someone gets a pet and then doesn't take care of it.:( We fed a stray for awhile, but it eventually went away. I'm allergic to cats so I can't bring them inside or even touch them.

got spots?

Omg it took me 2x to read it to see it wasnt a 1 yr old you were talking about. Lol...
But yea I guess one thing you can do is set up a insulated box or something like a dog house for it to go into.

Thing is I live in a building with a bunch of other buildings all around so those grouchy, nasty people see the boxes and after one or two days throw them out.

My cat is a stray taken from right outside my window and we've been able to rescue over 15 kittens and find them homes which can't be done without the help or our vet and his staff but it becomes overwhelming after awhile. Especially now that the economy is down less and less people are looking for the extra responsibility and bills but I dunno why so many of them find it necessary to throw them out in the street. I live in NYC and we have an abundance of rescues and vets that are willing to take in animals but once they hit the street and are considered a "stray" it's a different story.

Maybe we can lure him or her with a can of tuna like we did the other one.

Good luck catching him/her. I feel terrible for animals that are left outside here and it's only in the 50's most nights. I can't begin to imagine how anyone could throw an animal out in the cold in NYC.

People lack the understanding that they are living things that need food, water, warm shelf and just a little TLC, ugh.

We're in the process of rescuing a one eyed Maine Coon with a missing eye up the block but each time we show up with a carrier he's MIA.

The stray cat population problem is ridiculous. There are plenty of animals that need homes and there just aren't enough of them. We run a kitten adoption program at my work, take in young homeless cats, spay/neuter them, update all their shots and keep them until we can find them new homes. Both my cats came from the program. A word of advise though, it's great that you're trying to help, just be careful, there's no way to know what diseases that cat might be carrying so don't get bitten(cat bites suck big time anyways, 90% get infected) and don't let him/her come in contact with your cat/dog. You probably already know this but thought I'd just pass the warning along, I've seen a few cases of strays giving indoor pets some nasty diseases.

(and watch out for fleas! lol)

Anyways, good luck with the kitty!

Yes, we already knew that but thanks for the advice. Our first time we took in a cat that had obviously been kicked out right before a blizzard thankfully he didn't have any diseases and was trained and fixed BUT the fleas, thank god we don't have carpet! I was drowning in Frontline and flea shampoo, lol.

My vets office has a similar program but space is very limited and their manager actually takes the cats into her home once they've been checked for disease, vaccinated, etc. so they can get used to living in a home once again.

When we rescue cats we use thick gloves and we place them in the carrier and are driven straight to the vets office because I personally have a cat and a dog and I'm not going to take a chance.

I haven't been able to find him but he cries every night at about 12-1am. I run to my window but can't seem to see where the hell it's coming from this is so depressing, each time I hear him cry I do nothing else but cry myself to sleep because it's breaking my heart and it's sooo cold out.
