He loves his big tank, is very active and is eating well.

Day time temps are between 35-42c, night time temps are between 22 and 25 c.

Cheers-

Darren.

Nice! Wish we still had pure ones available here in the States :( For the most part all we have now are those "caudoleni" ( caudolineatus x gilleni )

Just another veiw of the tank, has a strong, tight fitting door on the side with a small brass bolt lock. 2 air vents with small fans attached on the outside to keep the tank warm but prevents it getting too hot in the summer.
Solid glass front.

2 shelves, plenty of rocks and and 3 dessert plants. I spent a good few weekends and late nights building it and it weighs a tonn.

Darren, you would be doing your gilleni a great service if you added ALOT of TIGHT areas and hollows for him to hide in. They like to squeeze into their hides.

True but hes still young and hasnt the streangh he will have when hes bigger, ive actualy seen him a couple of times wedging himself in to tiny spaces. The problem was that he got stuck and couldn't get out, he just wriggled and struggled but couldn't move.

So, ive design the interior and furniture for him now as a small monitor and for later when hes bigger that way i dont have to change anything, he has a few rock crevices and one smaller rock hide i made out of a few slabs of sandstone you cant really see it in the pic as its under the bottom shelf.

He has been a completely diferent reptile since i put him in this tank, so active and has one hell of an appetite now where as before in his temp tank he slept most of the day and rarely ate more than a couple of crickets a week. Its made a huge difference.

He now runs and climbs all over the place, grabs a cricket and runs up the logs and eats it under the heat bulb but prefers to sleep up the top of the branches. Must be that natural instinct being that in the wild this species tends to spend allot of time in the Mulga trees.

Thanks for the comments and replys everyone :main_thumbsup:

Darren,
I am impressed bro... That little guy is awesome... They are such cool little monitors... They are actually my favorite odatria species...

We have pure V. gilleni Slayer...
Also, caudolineatus and gilleni do cross breed in the wild... Rumor has it that the new species, Varanus bushi, is the result of the pairing...
