even though this is the number one reason i believe, there is another one as well.

some where along the lines someone feed a super worm to an anole... an ANOLE!!!!. the anole probably choked or something before the super was even dead. im suprised the worm didnt eat the entire lizard. but you know, what thing leads to another... it was an anole, no a flying gecko, no a day gecko, no a leopard gecko, no it was a HUGE bearded dragon!!..... some people have no idea..

as for the second one about leopards not biting.... i dont care what animal it is... if it has a mouth it can bite. and thats just common sence.

LOL! OK, I will give these folks the benefit of the doubt.
I am sure they realize geckos CAN bite, what they are REALLY asking
is, are they INCLINED to bite!! Hows that? :main_laugh:

I whole heartedly agree! When people ask me things of that nature I tell them the same thing..it has a mouth, so it can bite! When I hear the 'myth' that leo's never bite I have to laugh...same with the thing about them having no teeth.

I get that asked a lot where I work and I usually tell them that too: that if it has a mouth and teeth it can bite. But I then go on to explain how when geckos are small they're bite is more like a pop, when they get bigger they can cause more damage though.

I never think for a second that my cat won't bite me if I do something wrong. However, several baths later I've yet to be bitten - doesn't mean she won't ever do it if I mess up.

Here is a myth.. If a leo comes into contact with floor temps over 92 dgrees, they will cook... LOL... My bins are all set for a 97 degree floor temp for years... I have seen nothing but good things from keeping leos hot like this including not going off feed during the winter months and breeding at any time during the year... Growth rates are better as well... The higher heat keeps these lizards immune systems strong too...

One more myth is that "because leos are nocturnal, they do not bask in the sun or use the sun to get vitamin D3"... The fact is that ALL nocturnal reptiles do infact bask in the sun for short periods of time... Mostly at dawn and before dusk... They do this in order to heat up before they hunt at night and they do infact use the sun to produce D3 in oreder to process and absorb calcium properly...

I didn't know that, but it does make sense. So would you recommend me getting a daytime bulb for my enclosure. I'm only using nightglo bulbs. (I'm hoping to have a living area with an actual window in the future next to which I'll set my gecko tank but until then we live in a dungeon.)
