Sorry about your hatchling. I have been working with trying to come up with "the reasons" for bad results as you and many others seem to have. I would certainly appreciate a PM with any details you may want to supply me on the breeding, food/supplementation, and incubation methods
used.........Take care. HJ

Is it his umbilicus chord to the yolk sack? or is it definately protruding from the anus?

Please let us know what's happened, and perhaps the advice that was given to you, so that we may all learn from this. Sorry to hear about your hatchling

Well after sending this picture to Paulnj I am holding out hope that it is his yolk sack draging behind him . He is in a sandwich container on a moist paper towel in the incubator like our newly hatched bearded dragons . He is very small compared to the other leo hatchlings we have had . Paul said maybe a premature and thus the egg sack . Hopefully all will end well . Thanks again go out to Paulnj for all his help ! This is a great site :main_yes:

It does look like the cord and sack still attatched. It should fall off soon. I hope the little one makes it for you.

I have had to deal with both situations: cord attached, and umbilical hernia with intestines coming out. If the opening where the cord is attached is tiny, no more than 1/8" or smaller, it's probably just cord. If it's bigger and longer and you can see more pink stuff inside, it's intestines and the hatchling will probably not survive. It does look like the cord from the picture.

Not a problem on the (hopefully) help, as I too got much help and still do at times. This site isn't just about "look what I made", but about enjoying reptiles and sharing in knowledge so we all can enjoy happy little friends.

updates?

Hi everyone and thanks to all who took the time to read this post . Well he is still in the incubator but the piece dragging behind him did fall off so it probably was the yolk sack . He is not out of the woods yet though as he is very small and not really moving around at all . The strange thing is you can see through his belly . It is transparent and there is nothing there inside him it just looks like air. I tried to take a picture to show on the forum but it doesn't show well in the picture. That spot where there seems to be nothing is what initially made me think those were his intestines and that they were supposed to be in that spot . Any thoughts on this ? also anything else I might be able to do to help the little guy along ? Thanks

Maybe just excess interstitial fluid? I had a wee-one like that emerge, and he eventually caught up and is doing fine now. He came from giant to giant breeding...but he hatched at only 1.4g!?! another "pet only", but he's a cuty :)
