They can start changing as early as their first shed, and seem to change earlier and more quickly if they're going to lose their spots. On average, by 2 months or so, you can start to see the changes. I have found that some geckos, like patternless red stripes in particular, actually get more spots as late as a year old or more. The gecko in my avatar is a redstripe and was probably about 4 months when the picture was taken. She now has at least 3 more rows of spots. I have also found that on young juveniles you can see their developing changes even before they shed, but it's usually more dramatic after they shed. As far as misting geckos, I do mist my hatchlings when they are just out of the egg until their first shed. This is to keep them moist for a first shed and also because I don't give them food or water until they have pooped and shed. In that case I mist 2-3 times a day, but once they're ready to eat, I give them a moist hide and dont worry about misting anymore.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, about 2 months. Mine started changing when he was about that age, when he was 5".

As long as your baby isn't having trouble shedding, a moist hide should be sufficient. If you notice that it's not shedding easily you can mist also.
