It's a very, very big different to name one individual a personal name. All mine got names. My Blackie is a Black Velvet and her real name is Black Beauty. I call her Blackie. When I saw Pirates of Caribbean I wanted one of my offsprings to be called Black Pearl too, calling her Parl. At that time I hadn't heard of Conrad at all! And if I had done that no one could have stoped me.

I think this is a missunderstanding. It's not the morph BP, it's the females name. And if there will be offsprings from her they will have other names and at that piont he has to consider what to call his new dark line.

By the way I have seen a male named Diablo Blanco. It was a normal tremper and non has told her to change the name of her male.

I'm defending Komao. I feel you guys are being wrongful to her. I don't really give a flying you-know-what about the majority's opinion.

Furthermore, I'm very aware of people's tendencies to flame in forums such as this.

Honestly you know what? She was just informed that this wouldn´t be cool and the rest was argueing with you and not with her.
She said she named it Black Pearl like saying this is a "super" Mack Snow.
I and I guess most" are fine with her naming her Gecko "This is a "Black" Pearl of a Gecko". But it should be said that it is not the morph(some ppl could understand it wrong).

Rest was argueing with you about her to be allowed to name it the Black Pearl as you think "looks similar so it must be the same".

No one was attacking her on a personal level as Kellih said we only informed her and tried to explain why we think it won´t be cool.

I mean your right... she can name it whatever she´s like to. But it is not fair to the other Breeder and his work.

buuuuut to make it easier, name every black gecko the same even though it might be a differen mutation?

It was not a misunderstanding- the problem of the name for this little beauty was pointed out in the previous thread but kamao still sticks to the name. And I don't think she meant just a normal gecko name- no capital leters...

Hey I was also not trying to be rude but it is big problem of both etics and nomenclature- there's enough chaos with names already and it is hard to avoid confusion, and breeders who name lines as they please only worsen thing.:main_rolleyes:

Anyway good luck with the little one and please update when she is adult I would love to see all the black lines in comparison to one another, it would be great to see the similarities and differences :]

Black Pearls are only pruduced by 1 breeder and the only way you can get them is if you buy from him. The same with Black Beautys. And neither breeder of those black leopard gecko morphs have sold any of them.
Its cool that Kamao made their own black cool looking leopard gecko but just needs to call it something else so it does not get confussed with the real Black Pearl and Black Beauty's that the other breeders created.

How would you feel if I skipped down to a local chain store, picked up a little leo for a small fee that was nothing special, it produced a baby, and I sold it to someone as a Super Nova because I should be able to call it whatever I feel like? Or bought normals in bulk and sold them as RAPTOR hets because I feel like they remind me of RAPTORs? That is where the type of practice you have thus far described leads.

We apply appropriate labels to things so that meaning is not corrupted when one person communicates with another person. Misnomers lead to the degradation of the ideas one wishes to express.

As an aside, I think I saw something called a Midnight Blizzard, so maybe my Midnight suggestion should be withdrawn from the lot.

Komao's dark hypo honestly looks earily similar to a few of the specimens pictured on living art geckos website. You can't blame someone for having the 2+2 = 4 mentality. After all we have been seeing dark hypos since the dawn of leos. If you indeed have something truly special on your hands, (which I feel Living art may in fact have) It will clearly stand out above the rest as living art's do, and nobody can take that away from you such as the tangerine tornados, electric tangs, blood hypos. As of now I find the situation to be the same as the tangerine albinos. Hyglows, tangerine albinos, tangelos, sunglows, hypo albinos, hybinos. Thus far all we have seen are dark melanistic looking hypos. The "Black Pearl" name should not be used for komaos dark hypo, but to rain down from the gecko heavens with a bold post just seems like a bit much.

Your right :main_laugh: When I read what you wrote my mind was blank on the Black Velvet name so the Black Beauty stuck.


So if they want to call their line of Black Leopard geckos Black Beauty they could.

No one ever said the Black leopard in question was not cool and nice looking. Its just the fact they keep saying it is a Black Pearl when in fact it is not.

and I have never heard of the Bp named by artliving gecko till recently
