New car and it's broke

About two months ago I bought a 2010 Acura RDX. It's been great. Well, last night, the steering wheel locked up twice while I was driving down a hill, the battery light and the oil light came on, and then when I turned off the car, it didn't want to start up. I got it started and drove home, but the Acura service guy told me today, that the car was not drivable nor safe. I had to have it towed, which was free because the car is under warranty.

I was thinking about it after I called, and yesterday afternoon, when my boyfriend put his foot on the brake and started the car, it made a popping noise.

Brand new car and it's broke. I'm thrilled let me tell you.

Luckily, the tow is free. I'm hoping whatever is wrong is going to be a cheap or free fix. I'm broke this month with my $600 car tag due next month (paying it this month bc the due date is before I'll get paid my online revenue, which is my bill paying income). Plus, I've got the car payment due tomorrow, and some bills to pay where I put a few things on credit card last month. I'm so broke until July 27th, which sucks.

If they haven't already, make the dealer give you a rental car for free so you can get around. It's a shame that you can't trust any new cars to be reliable these days. We've got 4 minor recalls between our Chevy and Toyota.

Got the car back the next day, no charges, and nothing wrong with the car. The service guy did put a note of the complaint on my account and notify the regional manager about it. We'll see what happens. Hopefully, it was a one time deal.

If its not driveable after 2 months I would make them get you a new car. I had a friend that had a vehicle under a yr. One night it accelerated on the highway and he had to basically shut it down for it to stop. He drove it into the dealership and they replaced it 2 months later for no charge. Sometimes you have to work them but more cases then not they can do things to resolve those issues rather then haveing bad press.

I would talk to however you need to to get the car replaced. You shouldn't have to deal with any problems on a brand new car. They'll keep telling you that nothing is wrong until you're out of warranty. Despite the manufacturers' quality control standards duds still make it onto the sales lot.

Well, Acura corporate just called or someone that's not at the dealership, and asked me to bring the car back in to Acura and they wanted to do more testing. Said that someone not necessarily from that dealership would run a few more tests. They just want to make sure since it was of a serious concern....

I mean, if the steering wheel goes out in traffic, I'm screwed. They know that too, so I guess that is good that they want to double check.

I wonder if they've had any other complaints, or if they just want to cover all the bases.

That's certainly good news! Keep us posted on what you find out. Hopefully they'll just replace it and give you a new one. It would certainly be cheaper for them than being sued after you get in an accident in your defective brand new vehicle!

I am pretty big into cars myself. There is such a thing considered Lemon law with new vehicles, sounds like that is what you have. RDX's and MDX's are the problem childs of Acura, otherwise a fairly decent vehicle. No matter what someone says, if the steering wheel locked up on you while you were driving and the vehicle is less then a year old, there is a major issue that needs to be addressed. Its your safety and most "stealerships" will push that vehicle out quickly and write it off as a random mishap.

As someone else has said, The dealership should give you a loaner if you ask them about it. The vehicle is under warranty and is in their service dept, you should have no issue there. Hope the best for you and hopefully Honda/Acura figures that issue out for some peace of mind.

Yes, GA has a lemon law, which I had to pay for when I bought the car. I'm taking it in tomorrow.

I called Acura yesterday after they called me and I missed the call, but the service department had no clue what i was talking about. I didn't know who called because no one left a message. The service guy was going to check on what's going on and call me back. That was like 20 minutes before he had to leave, so I'm expecting a call today.

I'm hoping to get the car back today, but I still haven't heard from Acura. They called yesterday and said that they had to do the write up, another test, and the detailing on the car. It's 2est and still haven't heard back. Last time I got the car back the next day.
