so i was at the only decent stocked store around here, i have to go to them for worms/crickets/hoppers, and the past couple of weeks ive noticed this leopard gecko there, always in the same position looking real bad and dehydrated, almost dead. anyway today it got the best of me and i bought it, or should i say her. right now shes not in the greatest shape but she already ate a couple superworms for me right away and a couple wax worms.

its been a couple hours now since i took those pics, i put in a humid hide for her shed that was stuck on and she was in there for a bit then came out and explored and then warmed up on the pad. she seems to be doing well in her new hide.

oh and the kid at the pet store said it was a mack snow, can anyone verify this? i know the pics are bad but she looks like the mack snows on google

Glad you saved her from the pet store. My pet store is the same, all of the leos are in horrible condition.

As for the mack snow, it looks like it could be possible with her spots, but she looks a lot like a normal with all that yellow. Mack Snows usually have minimal yellow. Good luck with her though, hope she gets back to good health!

yeah the flash made her a lot more yellow than she really is. ill try to get another pic. she has a good amount of lavender on her as well making me think shes not a normal. either way, shes awesome so far and i hope she does well as well.

The only way to know for sure whether she's a Mack snow is to breed her to a non-snow and see if you get any snow babies. I hope she does well with you.

Be very careful in offering too many food items at each feeding. She looks starved and may have a tendency to overeat, causing regurgitation. Two worms is plenty per feeding, but twice daily feeding would be good if you can, at least for a week or two. A good healthy diet will help her gain weight at a steady rate. Waxworms are not part of a healthy diet.........

i know wax worms aren't, but i figured she might like some as a treat after being in such poor conditions for so long. but thanks on the tip, i knew i should limit her so i didn't give her TOO much. i gave her around 3 at a time 2 times yesterday, so around 6 total, that should be fine right?

thanks again

Good for you saving her. The pet store I always got has two albino leos in worst shape than yours. They have no fat on their tales at all. I've been resisting the urge to buy them, poor things. I don't want to encourage the pet store.

What's worse encouraging the store or having the poor things die. Personally i would talk to the manager and explain they look bad and that toys buy them just.to help the little guys out. Maybe they'll cut.you a deal on them. Besides if they are albinoes it's worth the purchase.

well its been 5 days and shes doing great so far. got a bit of weight on her and she seems pretty well active. she's been pooping in the same exact spot every time which is nice. debating on whether to move her onto repti-carpet or keep the paper towel. thoughts?

checked the eyes and its just her pupils dilated. anyway, she just shed her whole body and has been extremely active lately. i want to get her some more tank decorations and a bigger coconut hide because it seems to be her favorite.

here's a pic from today.

I understand the "feelings" involved with seeing them not cared for.
You are a caring person........ but:
$40 bucks is much more than need be paid for that condition gecko.
They want to "deal" them out so you're on
the Food chain / supply list of customers.
" shoot a price to the store manager " ask Free first,
[with a sad face, maybe a tear, showing a concern for the animal]
go $15- if needed-20 .....most likely will take it, especially if you mention
you buy products there..AND other chains are around your area.
You would be surprised what they get them for.
They don't really WANT them, that's why $$ is not spent on their care.
Take care. HJ

meh i had the money, and it was either keep knowing shes suffering or help out. and reguardless of my business there, they would still keep thriving. they are one of the only reptile stores here and by far the most popular.

heres almost 2 months in. shes doing great.

I'm with ya there, I saved 2 leos from a local petco that had them in a 5 gallon tank and they were all hatchlings but still 8-9 leos in a 5 gallon tank with 1 hide that faces the glass(so they can be seen but theyre always miserable with all the light) =/

Cutie whatever it is.
