That's a great project you have there (I wish I were more creative!!),
but I would worry about that paper mache hide, esp since you are using it
for a moist hide. Even if you seal it well, I would think you would have a
problem with mold which could lead to parasite infestation.

Just my 2 cents :)

thanks

The paper mache is built on top of a rubbermaid container so it really shouldn't have any contact with water.

Heres a few pics after siliconing some sand to it (give it texture) and paint, still needs to be sealed...

looks good, I'd suggest sealing it with epoxy. If you've never worked with it before it is super simple, its a two part sealer that will successfully turn your hard work into rock hard material

What kind of epoxy would you use?
Can you just brush it on?

Yeah, just go out to home depot or similar hardware store. You'll find the two part epoxy in with paints and such. It comes in a can with the liquid hardener in the lid. Its kind of like using a thick paint or jell like substance, really easy to work with and drys up solid as a rock. Its the stuff the use for fiberglassing boats

Unless you're looking to quick-dry, then I'd buy some spray-on finish, or depending on what you're using to make the rock, just some general sealant.

nothing can beat the finish from the two part part epoxy though, a spray on clear finish will wear off fast and doesn't really add any structural integrity
