Tony, You should take orders and have either local or show pick ups only. You can compete with AP and the others if your prices are more affordable for smaller scale breeders. If you need someone to test your racks just let me know :)

I will consider that for the future. I want to make a few more to perfect the process, as I was building this one I found a few changes that I want to make to future units. I'll have to figure out how to transport them too, a fully assembled rack does not fit in the back of a Mustang :D

when you get AP racks you have to assemble them :p

so i do not see why others can't assemble theirs

What did he ask for? Maybe try asking by brand name, the stuff I got is Sintra, and Komatex is another equivalent brand.

Nice rack Tony looks really pro. I have experimented with making my own pvc racks before. They look great and work well but the cost is high by the time you buy the materials and cut them it ends up being almost as much as buying a rack from AP but maybe you save $10+ shipping. will you not be using one shelf. looks to me like it will fit 18 tubs.

Not trying to discourage Tony from doing his thing, but reality is. his cost for making the rack with materials + heat tape is about the same as retail cost of a similar sized rack elsewhere. there fore he could not make it more affordable to smaller scale breeders unless he could get the materials for much less.

Great for a do it yourself home project to save a little money. Yet a much bigger project to take on if you actually wanted to make any profit. IMO

Thanks Zach. I could have fit one more row of tubs at the bottom, but I made it a sort of pedestal instead, I didn't want to have to get down on the floor to work on the bottom row, and it will help insulate the bottom row so its heat is not lost to the floor.

I am going to wire them in series so that one acts as a backup to the other in case of malfunction. I have heard so many horror stories about a malfunctioning thermostat cooking collections, so I prefer to spend the extra money on a backup unit to prevent such an occurrence.

yo tony did u get the plastic in sheets and then cut it yourself? or did laird do the cutting for you? is it comparable to most wood as far as ease of cutting? what kind of saw did u use if u did cut it yourself? haha sorry for all the questions about cutting but i am seriously thinking about building one of these sometime. it looks really awesome. thanks in advance!

I had Laird cut it, but I did have to trim one panel at home. It cuts just like wood, I used a skil saw with a standard blade. The panels are screwed together with drywall screws, but PVC cement works if you want to glue it.
