Not going to lie, I don't know much about these things. I got it as a "muted amelanistic". Also got a HUGE tank with her, was once a jewelry display case that they turned into a tank. Traded a Leo for it.

Don't know yet what all I need for the tank. I have the necessities until I can get to town tomorrow. Have a big water bowl, a hide, and that big tube, aspen bedding. I used a 23' heat cable to zig zag and cover almost half the underside of the tank. The guy I got it from said they feed it full size mice, but seems like that may be too big for her or no?

Adult mice would be fine for her. You'd be surprized on how big the prey can be. Too small a mouse, and she'd still be hungry

Love her, very nice, I have always fed mice the same width as them, that said youd be surprised how thin adult mice are compared to what we think they are. When in doubt take her to the petstore :D. Compare her to the frozens,

Another thing to try is if you can get them, small rat pups. They are roughly the same size as adult mice, but are nutritionally better for the snake. Gorgeous snake, and congrats on your first snake, you chose a wonderful species to start with.

Age has nothing to do with size or weight.....
Each snake keeper is different. A 200gram snake could have reached that size in 1 to 3 years depending on the previous owners husbandry....

At 200grams it is far from full grown......
Btw...... Nice looking amel.... It seems to almost be a sunglow with the reduced white (black) patterned area.....

Starting to get a rash on my hand and the only thing I can attribute it to is the snake. Anyone ever heard of having allergy to a corn snake? It's not on my arm though, which she has perched on as well, just my hand

What about being allergic to something like the snake's bedding? That I have heard of. As far as being allergic to a snake, not possible, since they don't produce regular allergens, like dander.

I was going to say the same thing. A lot of the girls I used to work with were very allergic to Aspen.

Thanks. I will try switching it tomorrow. Will probably go with newspaper, but what about sphagnum peat moss? I have big bundles of it, the kind you buy at lowes.

i thought id add that if your not already aware, feeding the snake in a seperate container will help minimize any substrate being eaten during feeding(as it wont in a seperate box) and such. It will also keep the snake from associating your hand in the tank with food. I learned the fun way. A large box or tub will do. Im curious about the moss too, i have tons of it for the leos humid hide but if i could use it with the snakes i think they would like burrowing in it.
