Under tank heater. You only need to use them on part of the tank so there a warm and cool side. The gecko will move throughout to keep it's body temperature what it wants. But my gecko stays on the warm side while sleeping but this is normal so don't be alarmed if it does.

Petstores need to stop letting new leo owners out of the store without buying a UTH. They are so hellbent on the stupid sand.

I have one very small UTH that came with the male leopard gecko that I got off craigslist. Its a zoo med. Im using it but, I know I need a bigger one cause the heating pad says hermit crab heater on it. I dont even know if its getting as hot as it should and takes a little bit to warm up. I mean its better than nothing for right now. But when I get payed again im going to buy a couple new UTH.

Hey our A/C isn't working right now anyways so its not that cold in here lol. I get money this week anyways.

I would have had the money if the pet store workers wouldn't have sold me so much unnessary stuff. I spent probally around $80.00 on everything. A lot of things I didn't need. Then they told me to dump cricket calcium powder in the bag that I bought the crickers in with the crickets in there. Well I did this and it killed my 2 dozen crickets no more than 24 hrs later.

Calcium dust should only be dusted on the crickets right before feeding the crickets to the gecko. You need a cricket keeper or some form of housing and gut load for the food and water. My gut load is something like a piece of orange and it supplies food and water. I use an 8x8 Exo Terra heat matt for desert animals. It works great and I don't even need to use a lamp dimmer. I just use 2 layers of paper towels and my gecko stays on the warm side so I know it's not too hot. And he is pretty active so I know it's hot enough. I also know it's the right temp because his food is digested good. They use the heat on their belly to digest food.

I got flukers orange cube food for the crickets and a really small plastic cage for the crickets plus I got flukers cricket quencher calcium fortified and flukers calcium with vitamin D. Now is this calcium only to be put on the crickets or can I also put this brand in a little dish in their cages?

I use the orange cube food too.:) Not the quencher calcium and I think my calcium has vitamin d3,phosphorus free and it's fluker's. I have a small dish of it in my tank and I've seen my gecko lick some so I assume it's fine. My gecko is healthy so I'm going to keep up what I've been doing(I've only had him about 2 1/2 weeks maybe 3)

This is not an appropriate substitute for a thermometer. Something I believe you were already told.

I know many people that use this method and it works for them. Their geckos are over 6 years old and they do many things not recommended here. Leo's are tough creatures. Let's not start a discussion of what I say in a thread that has nothing to do with that.

But I don't want to direct you the wrong way so I admit IT IS RECOMMENDED...They only reason I haven't got one is because they are $30 at my pet store and I am not about to put my credit card number online with some of these sites I don't trust. The most important thing is that I have done extensive research and my gecko has shown NO SIGNS AT ALL of common problems when your temp. is wrong...

Have you checked ebay? Also, at walmart I know you can buy a prepaid one time use visa card A lot of people use those for online shopping. I know ebay they are around $5.99 and even walmart carries the sticky kindof thermomoter that you could place just above the ground on the outside of your tank.

I hate ebay. Got took toooo many times on that. I might get one in the future if I begin to observe issues. But my gecko so far is fine. And before anybody even replies something like "It may be fine for now but blah blah blah"......I know

I would rather buy from amazon. I have a kindle gift card with like 20 on it and I found a thermometer with a probe on it but I don't know if I can pay with my kindle card. I want to use it but I don't know if I can. But even if I can I'm sticking with what I'm doing.

When I first started with leos the pet store employees told me to use sand and get a day bulb and that they need misted daily :main_rolleyes:
Heck I went to an expo recently and the one guy I met that was selling leos told me they didnt need a moist hide! Did I mention he was also selling leos!!:main_lipsrsealed:

Oh wow, yea, from everything I've read (and mine has his moist hide), they require one for shedding purposes. I'm surprised the person would tell you that. I guess to "show how easy it is" to take care of leos. They can be easy to take care of, it does take some time and money, and research, but if you're up for it and have the option, I say go for it. I don't regret a single day that we ever got Merlin. I love the little guy like crazy. He's the most spoiled in the house, as far as inside animals go. The horses are of course very spoiled, but that's the way it is with our animals, we love them like members of the family, so we spoil them, the best that we can ^_^

I trust amazon. It's not an individual selling something. I think I might get a probe therm. that somebody gave me a link to.
