Hey guys, I just picked up a new leo today! She's a Tremper Albino giant, possibly (hopefully) super giant. She was born in May and weighs 42 grams. She's been exploring her new cage and has already ate 5 superworms. My last gecko didn't eat for over a week after I got her, so I was pretty excited when she ate so soon.
Here's a couple of pics. I was going to try to take some better ones but she snapped at the camera so I backed off.

Thanks guys. She's pretty mean so far. She'll snap at you as soon as you walk into the room she's in. I'm going to cover the tank sides with paper towel til she settles in a little more.

very nice :)

if she was born in may and is 42 grams chances are she is not a giant nor a super giant. infact she is slightly small for that age. she is not skinny just small. beautiful gecko none the less. my mack giant is 5 months and 53 grams

Really? The breeder said her dad was a super giant, and mom was a giant. I think he said something about only feeding once a week so they grow slower. Something to that effect. She's really long and lanky, just skinny. She's longer than my full grown blizzard female and male normal.

Why on earth would someone do that? Did he tell you why???

to feed a growing leo one time per week? babies and juvies should be eating every day or every other day, adults 2-3 times a week minimum (depending on the time of year)
she may well be longer than your full grown blizzard but she is nearly a year old and almost full grown (or should be close to full grown by now, although they do tend to fill out in their second year)

http://www.leopardgecko.com/giant-genetics

"Genetically predisposed to become large in size. These giant-sized leopard geckos have two classes called Giant and Super Giant. Giant: Males reach 80-110 grams and females 60-90 grams by one year of age as typically seen in the heterozygous state. The largest Giants are called Super Giants: Males are over 110 grams and females over 90 grams by one year of age as typically seen in the homozygous condition. They can be any pattern or color. Unless both parents are known Super Giants there are no visible ways to tell a Giant from a Super Giant until 10-12 months of age."

Cheaper but not healthier to feed once a week. Some people say in nature they have to look for food and whatever but they are not in nature. I leave food in so they can eat whenever.

It's a fact that reduced feeding during the first year of life will stunt growth in leopard geckos, in fact many species. If your gecko was only fed once a week for the first part of her life, she may in fact carry giant genes, but may now never reach her true potential size. She missed out on vital nutrients early in life that are key to steady growth. Yes, giants/super giants do gain much more length than the average adult leo, but they should have weight that reflects that length.

well given time most leos will gain weight as they get into their second, third and so on years, into their prime. most any gecko will do this giant or not. i have a three year old 91 gram blizzard female which is quite long but is NOT a giant

Having bought geckos from Cameron before and seeing how healthy and nice they are, I really doubt he is only feeding them once weekly.

Hey, everyone just to clear any misconceptions up. I feed geckos more than once per week. They have food available at all time as well as water. As far as the issue with the super giants/ giants I bred a Super Giant male purchased from Ron Tremper to a Giant female Purchased from Steve Sykes. The genetics are guaranteed and the size in of the geckos are good and healthy. The animals are actually quite long, over 7 inches and the weight in my experience is something that come later as they mature. They have been given ample nutrition and will continue to grow to their full potential. If you have any questions you can send me a message, e-mail me, or call me all my contact info is on my website. Thanks

I do understand what the "definition" states but working with the animals is different. That is why there is so much debate on the morph in the first place. I have found that many others who work with this morph experience the same thing concerning their growth. I've noticed that they grow long and lanky then fill our as they get older and become sexually mature. I'm glad to see that people are staying on their toes and making sure that others know what they have. I love this community and would only want to make it better. Thanks
