Newbie needing some morph advice

You'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge when it comes to Leo morphs, corn snakes are more my field! Anyway, i bought my leo from a good rep shop and i was told she is hi-yellow (it's the leo in my avatar). She has a spotty head and tail and only a few spots on the rest of her body. She had her 3rd shed since i've had her last week and i've noticed some really bright orange patches where her tail meets her body, is this possibly the carrot tail gene or something normal for a 4 month old hi yellow?

Thanks for any advice, i will try to get pictures up asap

yeah it would be easier to tell if I could see the body, but the orange spots at the tail does sound like the carrot tail gene to me. That is how my leos tail started. With every shed the orange crawls further and further down the tail : )

These are the best pics i could get. They were taken on a N95 so the quality is decent, the orange is a lot brighter than the pictures make out too.

I think the bottom picture shows it a bit better :D

Does this mean that mating her with a male with the carrot tail gene will produce true carrot tails? As i said, i'm a real amateur with leo genetics!

Looks like a tangerine, I don't know if the lack of spots is enough to qualify her as a hypo.

The orange on the tail is too little to qualify her as a carrot tail, I believe.

And when it comes to things like carrot tails in leo genetics, these are what is known as a line-bred trait. Meaning someone picked out leos with the most orange on their tails and bred them, picked out the ones with even more carrot tail from that breeding, bred them, and so on and so forth until they got a full carrot tail.

So, if you bred her to a male will a totally orange tail, her lack of orange would probably dilute the amount of orange he has.

Get what I'm saying? :)

Thanks for the quick reply valencia

Yeah cool, i get you. So you reckon she's a normal hi-yellow? If there is such a thing that is. More and more orange seems to appear after each shed

I bought her from a decent rep shop in liverpool and i seen both her parents, one was jungle phase and one was hi-yellow. Here's a full body shot if it's any help?

She may end up with an orange tail yet. This is my carrot tail at 9 weeks and them this week.

Cool, so she's Hypo Tangerine? So is she still classed as normal? I want to start a breeding project in about a years time, any suggestions of male morphs that would produce interesting variations with her?

She is a hypo without the tangerine... She is not a "normal"... Hypos like that are pretty classic morphs... It will most likely not develop any carrot tail...

With all that being said, it is a beautiful leo...

I would agree with gregg, sh eis a hypo without the tang influence. And I dont know if i would classify her as a carrot tail quite yet. Congrats on the little one!
