I think it's important to give my females a break from the males. It gives them a chance to store up on some essential nutrients and get their bodies back in order. Being gravid can really take a lot out of females. I think after a few months of revitalization, they'll be good to go again in march.

would assume whatever floats your boat. i generally breed in season though. well if you want to call having leos breed almost all year around, a season hehe (here in texas they breed almost year around)

like matt or lauren said, you do need to give both your females and males time out no matter where you live.

For me there are two ways to answer this question.

1. I breed druing the normal Feb-Sept season, shorter or longer depending on how long the females are producing.

2. I keep half my geckos that I want to breed in another room that is temp controled and light cycled to reproduce a breeding cycle that starts in Oct, they produce for about 6+/- months then I switch the room's lighting so they think breeding season is over.

I do this because I'd rather have my hatchlings spread out over the year instead of all at once. I'm starting this late season a couple months early this year and have a few girls that should be laying in a week or two. :)

This is a subject i have been doing some reading on lately ... but alas i have found many conflicting reviews and post ...some saying its ok some saying it produces weak eggs of offspring !

I would like to ask here .. has anyone had any truly bad experience with breeding off season ?

Im wondering What is the breeding season normally thought to be?

does it change by area?
I live in Florida and while visting the daytona reptile show i heard from some breeders that breeding at any time of the year can be done here quite easily

I don't think I could take the pace of having my geckos breed all year. Personally I would rather have the several months of intense babies followed by a few months where I've sold the babies and don't have any more coming. I want to be able to go on a short vacation without a houseful of geckos that need to eat every day.

I don't see anything wrong with breeding any time of the year as long as you give females a break. I have some females that don't even get started until around August and go through the "off season." It's just what they seem to prefer to do. Then, when "regular season" starts again for the other females, they're ready to take their break. It's nice, keeps me from getting a glut of hatchlings during any single part of the year.

Well..
I wasn't trying to steal your thread or anything like that
only putting into words what a :main_thumbsup: or :main_thumbsdown: cant quite explain to someone wondering why at this point half the votes are OTHER

and i wasn't asking for my self i was asking for the sake of the thread and anyone reading it

i thought this was a thread about off season breeding... assuming maybe the thread starter was looking for info rather then a simple yes or no ....

putting other as an option and asking for an explanation is clearly looking for info on the subject

i was only asking for the same thing an explanation on why they would or wouldnt breed off season

I am sorry if you felt i was trying to take away from you're post i was only trying to help on the subject.

ps i accidently voted no insted of other

I'm mostly in season, but once in awhile, I'll have a girl ovulate late. If she's at a good weight, I'll breed her. I will only breed the same female once in a year though. I wouldn't let one breed all year round. I actually have two girls ovulating now, but neither has accepted a male. Most of my other females have ovulated for the year already and are done laying.
