That's unbelievable. You almost could have named him ZigZag. I hope he does well for you (wouldn't mind seeing some updated pictures of Hope).

Wow! Could be MBD, very possibly, but I'm very surprised that the arms and legs aren't affected. I had a baby African Fat-Tailed with a curved spine...

Not a very good quality picture and she looks pretty sad in it (She was closing her eyes against the flash)

But you can see her "hump". I believe she had dwarfism but I'm not sure. She died suddenly one day when she was between 6-8 months. (I didn't have an exact hatch date).

Your sweetie doesn't have dwarfism but I'd peg it as a spinal deformity before MBD... Xrays would be really interesting to see!!

Good luck!! :) Keep us updated.

Oh wow.. i've never seen anything like that before. Have you thought of getting an x-ray to see if there has been any trauma to the spin. Wish You guys the best of luck.

I've seen another one like this before, I think on a German webpage; she was up for adoption. It wasn't MBD, it was a spinal defect.

I think that's what yours has, too. The "rest" of him looks quite healthy. So at least you don't need to worry that he dies of it, and that his limbs get affected. He actually looks quite cool. You should take some good pictures of him; maybe some researchers will be interested in spinal deformations of geckos one day... or some vet tech student needs it for a paper. Which reminds me there was a person on the forums who was looking for pictures of all kinds of diseases. She didn't have a spinal defect yet. You might search for that thread (about a month old or so).

He might not be a great beauty, but you sure do have a curio! :main_yes: If it weren't so macabre, I would suggest that we create a thread for a "gecko cabinet of horrors" (we've had an interesting picture of a gecko hatchling with two heads on the forum before). It would be very informative for people with anatomical/medical interests to know what all is out there (and what people normally don't show).

Anyways, care well for him; he's one of a kind :main_thumbsup:

I knew swallowing a toblerone bar was going to cause trouble for someone! XD

All joking aside he looks like a sweetie, depite the minor back issue. It doesn't seem to be causing any distress for him. I think you should call him Quazzy (Quazzimoto). I think it is a cute name for him. :) Keep us posted on him for sure!

I'm thinking this was a result of miss handling, possably dropped or someone got bit and flung him across the room. I'd be curious to see what turns up on an X-ray. I hope you talked them into just giving him to you. I also hope you reported them to the local SPCA.

Unfortunately he was not just given to us....we got him at a "discount"...

I'm hoping that it's nothing terribly serious and he'll be able to live a fine life...

I've tried looking up information online...but I can't seem to find anything on it...I just feel badly for the little guy...he doesn't act like it's bothering him...but I don't see how it couldn't be!

we got a small discount on him... and a good discount on the whole set up we got with him... pretty much we paid for a complete set up and gecko for the price we would of spent on just the gecko...

i dont think he would bite anyone... heck he is even gentle with his mealies :main_laugh: only thing i can think of is he may of been dropped... but other than that ive got nuttin... they typically dont let just anyone handle the lizards/reptiles.... i just get the "special" treatment :p we use the same locks to keep our things locked away, so i always have access to the geckos :D but i dont know as if i could dare to say he was mistreated... the mbd made sence to me cuz i know they dont give calcium like they should... so that made sence... but i dunno... it will likely remain a mystery as i dont see us haveing the spare money to go get an x-ray *shrug* hopefully he gets better... ill try to remain optamistic... cuz again... this is new *shrug*

A state veterinarian listing is posted at www.herpvetconnection.com. You could probabbly get away with an X-Ray and a physical exam for under $100. But if that's not feasable... you did mention the gecko is young. If a deformity/ genetic problem were to develop then now would be the time it would come about. The only way to say for sure is to take a picture...

OMG! That poor baby. I am so happy that he got a good home. I would think that if it wasn't there a week ago, it would have to be some type of injury. JMO. When our little girl got a broken leg and a cracked sternum, the herp vet just had us give her liquid calcium. Does he get around ok?
