I haven't hatched as many babies as some of you large scale breeders, so maybe you can help me out here. (Note: I was too busy to post these yesterday, so the babies are now a day and a half old in the pictures.)

I hatched out four babies all on the same day, two trempers and two snows. All the eggs were basically the same size, the snow eggs are on the left and the trempers on the right here...

But the babies really threw me for a loop. The snows are at least HALF the size of the trempers, but not really dwarfed or deformed that I can tell, just really tiny.

These next two are pictures of the snows next to the trempers. Remember these were all laid the same day, AND all hatched the same day. Look at the difference! It's even more pronounced in person, since in the picture I'm trying to keep the tiny baby from falling in with the bigger babies. They might mistake her for a big cricket or something. :main_rolleyes:

One more set of comparison pictures.

This is a picture of a one day old golden gecko I hatched earlier this year...

Almost the same size as this little snow...

that is crazy! That is really interesting how they are so different in size. Is this common for different morphs to be different sizes like this? just curious

Ugh, had a response typed out and got disconnected, so I have to retype it. :p

Anyhow, I've hatched other snows this year with no variation in size, but they have different parents. Example in pic below, I think the miniatures picked up something genetically from their parents. It's weird that the eggs would be normal sized and the babies so small. They must have had plenty of space in there, lol!

Regular sized snow hatchling from different parents:

EDIT: My scale is one of those old school triple beam contraptions, I've been needing to upgrade but haven't gotten around to it yet. The smaller of the babies is showing just under 1 gram and the bigger of the two is just barely over 1 gram.

Okay, went and did some searches on the forum and I'm not seeing a lot of babies weighing in at 1gram and surviving, that has me worried. It seems Jeremy had one, but it died. I hope these two make it, they both seem pretty spunky for hatchlings. They were hard to keep still for the photos.
I'm worried now. :(

actaully, all of our hatchlings have been that small so far! They have all hatched at 2 grams or less but are all doing great! They are fat and happy now. Those are beautiful babies BTW!

My snow hatched at 2 grams and the other 3 non-snows have all been 3-4 grams. The tiny one has now caught up with the bigger hatchling that hatched the next day and eats like a pig.

We have weight variation in our hatchlings as well.. we haven't ever taken one-day-old weights, but at 1 week of age, we have some that are 3 grams, some are 4-5 grams, and our two biggest were 6-7 grams. I would say the Tremper albinos are going to be some big ones!!

Try not to get so worried about the small ones!! I think it's your scale.. beacuse our little one that is the tiniest of all (3.2 grams at 10 days of age), was said to only be 2 grams at the vet, and they had an old school scale also.. I went home that very day and weighed my gecko, and she weighed 2.9 grams that day, so the vet's scale should have read 3..

I should also add that this gecko was only 3-days old at the time. The vet thought the gecko weighed 2 grams and evaluated her weight (on a scale from 1 to 5, 1 being very underweight, and 5 being very overweight) as a 3. :)

Keep an eye on them, but try not to worry so much :)

They are all very gorgeous and congratulations on such a wonderful hatchling find, and all in one day!!! :smitten:

We hatched a small snow that was around 1 to 1.5 grams. It is currently 8g at 8 weeks of age and very healthy. It didn't eat for almost 4 weeks. I did feed it Marcia's slurry after 10 days and every other day until it starting eating small silk worms.

I would suggest treating it like any other new born, and if it doesn't eat a couple days after the first poop, then there might be some worry. ;)

I recently hatched out a 1.4g baby from my giant pair--the male is 10.5" long and 120g and the female averages 80g. The little booger is eating, but he's growing slower than any leo I've ever raised...
