I have read that when breeding the female gecko can lose her tail if she is bitten or scratched.

I really want to breed maybe in the future, but I love those bumpy fat tails! I would hate to have a beautiful female lose the tail during it...is it common and is it just bound to happen when it comes to breeding?

What would be the chance if it occuring, like 50/50? (half the time)

I'd say more like 2% of the time, it's not really something that I'm too woried about.

Lol, wow really?? That's a relief for me...in a book I have they make it sound like it's a very common occurrence. I wouldn't want a girl losing a beautiful tail!

I know a few breeders and I've never heard of this happening, although I'm sure it must sometimes - especially if the female is an unsuspecting victim of surprise sex. lol

From what I understand it is common with crested geckos for them to lose their tail from breeding, but haven't heard of it happening with leos too often/ever

It does happen, but your right not at all like crested geckos do (I can say that from experience) I think there are ways to prevent it too- make sure there mature enough, and make sure the female is ovulating when you in with the males. So far I haven't had any of my leo's drop there tails.

I haven't had it happen yet either. I breed with 3 different females and they all still have their tails. But I am sure if you breed for long enough then it is bound to happen, but I would imagine it is a rarity.
