That is very sad Marcia

My heart goes out to that poor little gecko and to you

I really hope that you get her back and that she can be saved

This has to be the ultimate downside to breeding and selling geckos
I can only imagine how badly that you feel and how mad that you are getting

Holy crap, Marcia! I am so sorry about that. I can hardly look at that picture without getting sick! Can you threaten the with animal cruelty charges? That thing should have been to the vet LONG ago. I would say you could. What if you saw a dog with a face like that? Would you report it? Yes! Aleast, I would hope. I am so sorry for you Marcia. I couldn't imagine seen anything like that.

You know what. I had a break down when a girl I adopted my older female out to emailed me and told me she had droped her tail. I have never had a run in with a drop tail. I have never let anyone get very ill. I weigh mine and noticed weight loss in days and had them in the vet for a 300 dollar vet bill before I seperated. At the point that little girl is in. If I EVER saw one of my babies in that kind of condition I would fight my way to get her back. They were given a chance when the vet told them she needed I moist hide. It makes me so angry to see an animal in such poor condition. I threw a fit when my boyfriends buddy said he was going out of town for just a week and was leaving the gecko alone with no food or water. And I told him if I did I was going to call the human society. But what sickens me more is alot of times they wont do anything because its just a reptile. But if you ever saw a dog or cat in any kind of bad shape your made into this bad pet owner. This just sickens me. I am so sorry Marcia that you are having to go threw this. I really hope she pulls threw!

Oh Marcia, that poor little girl looks just awful! You'd think since the parents are footing the vet bills, they'd make sure that the boy was following through on the reccomendations made the first time. Not to Mention that stuck shed is one of the easiest problems in geckos to fix! Such a simple thing could have been prevented from going this far had they only listened...too bad some people who own animals really shouldn't be allowed to.

I have been very sick, and am dealing with a heart condition. I spent last Sunday in the ER on an IV with heart PVC's as well as exhaustion and dehydration. I've been on a heart monitor all week, and have been given instructions by the Cardiologist to rest and remain as stress-free as possible. I just cannot handle caring for this gecko right now.

The parents of the kid who has Comet admitted that they were lax about following up and keeping track of the gecko's condition and care, and realize they are ultimately responsible for her proper care. I gave them an ultimatum to either give me the gecko or get it to the vet ASAP. They chose to be responsible for Comet.

There comes a time when we have to practice 'tough love' and allow others to have to deal with the consequences of their own neglectful actions, but I am probably having as much stress over worrying about Comet as I would by simply taking over. But, I have to wait until tomorrow morning to see what the vet says...

*** UPDATE ON COMET ***

Comet went to see the vet today, and Dr. Harkewicz was able to remove all the skin from her face and eye. Her eye is still viable! She went home with her family, and has Gentak ointment for her eye 2X daily, as well as nothing in her tank that she can rub against. She has a Cool-Whip moist hide with moist paper towel inside, and is eating slurry unti she feels like eating on her own.

She will go back for a re-check in 2 weeks, and I will get another update at that time. He feels she will do just fine as long as they follow orders. I am relieved for the time being.

I didn't think Comet would see out of that eye again.
Neither did I, but apparently it atill works! So, 2 vet visits (around $65+ per visit) and the meds probably put them out at least $150, so hopefully they will take care of her now. Dr. Harkewicz is a fantastic herp vet, and I'm thrilled they took her in for treatment. Poor baby...

Matt I don't feel that all kids are irresponcible. I have owned one sort of pet or another for as long as I can remember. My dad bred hunting dogs and I was taught from a young age how important it is to care for the animals that we choose to take into our home and do it the right way. I think it is up to the parents to make sure that the child is ready for the responcibility and to help them with it. I know alot of young people that are excellent "pet parents"!!!!

I am also so very glad to hear about Comet. Hopefully her family will realize their mistakes and take the right steps to see that it never happens again. I am also happy that some of the worry has been lifted from you , Marcia.

Sometimes a hit to the pocketbook is the only way a person will learn a lesson..hopefully that taught them to be a little more caring and teach their child responsibility. I'm glad Comet had has such a great prognosis!
