Only vet that will look at a snake so they end up whacking you with a huge bill each time. This was for today. I can't wait to see how much in total this is going to come out to. :main_angry:

Ouch! I'd drive to a different town and find a vet. Medical waste fee? LOL I'm glad my vet doesn't charge us for throwing needles away.

It's going to be Fortaz injections every 3 days.
You don't even want to know what the price on this is.
Let's just say to stop in, have them do the first injection, and walk out with the dosage information was a LOT (yes, another exam fee too).

That really sucks! I had to take one of our dogs for daily blood draws for a week last year but our vet was kind enough not to charge me for the exam fees. Hopefully your snake recovers quickly!

On that bill the only outrageous thing I see is the exam fee.....is that $83 for an exam??? Most vets will charge you for medical waste....they just include it with other fees... Charging you an exam fee for revisits is ludicrous....very few vets do that unless the exam fees are very low to begin with......which that one most certainly is not!

That's crazy, the exam fee at my herp vet is $42, a lot more than my other vet charges for seeing my cat but still about HALF what you paid! Might be worth the gas money to go elsewhere?

I am thinking about looking into getting insurance for my pets...

Why are they having you come in and get the injections? Most vets would let you do the injections at home if you are comfortable doing it and know how. Why Fortaz? I know it's a broad spectrum antibiotic for mainly psuedomonas and staph. It can be harsh on the kidneys and liver, so keep the little guy hydrated. Good luck with that. Sorry to hear about the fees.

They wouldn't let me just pick up the Fortaz or the needles.
I tried explaing that I have lots of sterile needles here so I don't need theirs and that I don't need them to charge me to give the first injection.
Fortaz was chosen because it works against gram negative bacteria.
I don't like the mixing though. This powdered med bites big time.
We went round and round on the injection method because they wanted to go IM with the injections and I don't because that is too painful for the snake and since you can go SC, why even go the route that will be more painful when both work? I also wanted the site drained but that didn't happen.
I am not too thrilled with how this is going. Not only because I am getting robbed blind but also because treatment was delayed because of the vet being sick for a few days so I couldn't strt the meds until she came back to work. I really wish I had choices on vets but with a snake, I'm stuck since no one else will look at one.
Just not happy about this whole thing.

Avon! I thought a 45 minute drive eeach way to this one was a lot.:D
That would be about a 90 minute drive each way.
May be worth it though to find a decent vet even if the time and gas used is more.
I'll have to check them out.
Thanks.

Man, there is nothing worse than having to argue with a vet. :main_thumbsdown:

How is this cheaper?
I got clipped an exam fee (for more than $60) plus tests on the first visit and then the exam fee and med fee on the second visit.
