Problem with shipment...

Hi.

Ok so i was suppposed to get my new beautiful raptor baby ths morning via UPS next day air and pick it up at the hub in town.
BUT UPS screwed ups and misrouted the package so it's lost in space now and i won't get it before tomorrow.
I spoke with UPS for over an hour and had me connected to the supervisor,but they even told me"oh, you can't ship geckos with ups" and after i told them their own rules of shipping live animals they only said "aha".
But no one was able to help me,so there is nothing to do.
It's a small baby and i don't think it has a big chance of surviving.
And i am devastated by the thought of receiving a dead Gecko.
Do you think it can survive till tomorrow?

UPS ships live stock all the time, so they clearly did not know what they are talking about.
Was the box labeled "harmless live reptiles"?
His chance of survival will depend on what kind of temp extreme he is exposed to. Since it's not winter yet, I would say that is not a problem.
Even young leos are pretty hearty, and he should make it OK.
I would make sure to be home to receive him though.

If the shipper used the right live stock shipping box, and followed UPS procedure, there is no excuse for any trouble because it should have top
priority.
I dont blame you, I would be pissed too :main_angry:

P.S. do you have a tracking number?

Yeah it's in a labeled animal shipping box and the problem is with UPS,like i said the tracking says"package was misrouted at hub".
I will be at the UPS Hub as early as possible tomorrow to receive the package and hope the gecko is still alive.

Try not to worry.
Lack of water for a few days may not be good, but it wont kill him.
The UPS folks will know there is a live animal in there and they will
be careful.
Your leo will be fine I am sure

It should be ok. If the person who shipped her knows what they are doing, the gecko should be just fine. We have had two geckos that were in a hub in 20 degree weather in Rockford Illinois. They were also misrouted and were in the hub for over 24 hours! So, I think the hubs up north are all climate controlled so I think they should be just fine. Don't worry too much, it doesn't really help anything or make the time go by faster.

Thats the exact same hub where my misrouting took place.
But right now they departed from fort worth texas.

If the geckos were packed properly and the weather temperatures are moderate, your gecko should arrive safely. I know it's worrisome when your shipment gets messed up, and unfortunatley we are at the mercy of the shippers when we send live animals.

Yeah some folks have a hard enough time just waiting one day
Having to wait another is cruel and unusual punishment!!

first off let me wish you luck with your leo... hopefully everything turns out fine...

second id be up one side of them and down the other demanding some sort of refund... you paid for next day shipping... not 2 days... theres a huge price difference there... i would fight like a lil kid till i got my way!

I also want to encourage you that there is a very good chance your gecko will be OK. There's also a good chance that you (via the seller) will be able to get the shipping fee refunded. I had an experience like this with USPS and the baby day gecko not only arrived alive in sub-20 degree weather, but we got the shipping fee refunded.

Keep happy thoughts buddy. I just got my first AFT from Kasha today and the box came in red hot. She is doing fine which just underlines how tough and resilient these dudes are. I love Leos and AFT'S because no matter how much we screw up, they keep truckin.

Her little tail dropped during shipment but everything else is fine,she is already exploring like crazy.

She lost her tail in shipping??
That's kind of odd!!

I had an enigma drop her tail in shipping. She was not a hatchling either. What happened is my local Agriculture Department opened the box. They probably had a dog that sniffs the packages, and that is likely what scared the gecko into dropping it's tail. Had the species name been written on the outside of the box it wouldn't have been intercepted.

Don't worry, it's tail will grow back just fine. I like to use a spray called Herptile RX so there are no bacterial problems while the tail is re-growing. It's just electrolyzed oxidizing water, but it works.

Why would your gecko shipment be intercepted by the Dept of Agriculture?

The OP said the box was labeled that it contained a live animal.

Do you think UPS opened it? The box did get re-routed by mistake!!

Wow! I feel terrible for you. I know I would be upset.

I am expecting a leo shipment next week myself, and I have read too many
shipping error horror stories to keep me up at night.
I wish I knew what to suggest

I hope she pulls through, but to be honest, it doesnt sound very good

I'm glad your little one arrived safely, and sorry it dropped it's tail. I had that happened once to a gecko I shipped as well. Those boxes get tossed around quite a bit in transit.

According to the Lacy Act, ALL live animals that are shipped must have "LIVE" and the common name, scientific name, and quantity clearly labeled on the box. Many times the carriers will open boxes to inspect the contents if they are only labeled "live".

I leave her alone right now but i wanted to make a slurry just in case,what can i use instead of mealworms,since they are all sold out?

If you can find some medium crickets, you can remove their legs, dust them, and hand feed. This will prevent her from having to chase them down.
